OK, I have to admit I was hoping for a little more help in the process of writing content during the Get Started course. I get stuck here. I always have. I realize that in order to

What about writing content gets you hung up? Talk to me. I am pretty sure I can help you out, a lot.

Hi Craig. Well, I've been in IM a while but have only ever really built one website and it was on something I have done my whole life and am very knowledgable about. So, the idea of writing content on things that I'm not an expert on feels, I guess, like having to do a research paper (which is my only other experience in writing about topics I don't know much about). So I guess that's where the issues are. It feels intimidating and like it's going to be tons of work and not fun at all... that's what it feels like in my head, even though I realize it's a relatively simple process.

So it's more a mental thing that I have to get over. I certainly know how to Google my keyword and do a little research, you know? It's not a mystery. It's just a hang up in my head.

Hello,

I wrote a relevant article in my website with some "killer tips" (as I would like to call them) to improve your writing.

I try to follow these tips myself every time I write new content. It has proven to be short of a checklist to me that I always try to keep in mind.

See if it helps: http://www.viterbi.net/improve-your-blogging-skills-with-these-5-killer-tips/

Thanks, Viterbi. I especially liked the tip about headlines, and the reminder about the call to action. Great article!! I'm so grateful for the help and support here!

My main tip, write lots. You get better at one thing one way...by doing it often. I know writing can seem like an arduous task when starting out for some, but it becomes more natural as you move forward and if you choose a niche you are interested in, it can actually be quite fun.

Also, write content that you would want to read..and that is targeted at people, not search engines. Too many people get caught up trying to write "SEO" content, when it is really people we are writing for. If you lose sight of that, your content is going to get weak readership and Google will not rank it.

IF you can follow those two things, you are never going to have trouble getting rankings and your SEO is going to skyrocket.

Thanks, Kyle. I think I have gotten caught in the whole writing for SEO thing... even though I did always learn that we write for people, too. I guess being here at WA is sort of uncovering what's always tripped me up and giving me solutions! I'm excited!

Thanks very much. Great breakdown of the process and organizing research. And a really interesting (and well-written) article... thanks for sharing your training with me!
