Facebook Blueprint Training Module 9 - Beginning Facebook Marketing
A great module covering Facebook's beginnings and it's evolution. It discusses the impact of mobile and Facebook's journey into being a marketing platform.
The first section is the time line since 2004 and the key changes and focuses that have shaped the market and Facebook's responses to it.
Understand that Facebook is a marketing platform that is very different than anything else. It is because of the ability to measure real people, not just cookies or clicks, allowing advertisers to measure and optimise throughout the sales funnel. This means there is an amazing ability to target people so it is important to define your client. And advertising is backed up by extensive statistics so you can monitor performance.
There has been a massive shift to mobile
- Over 1 billion people are consistently using Facebook on mobile everyday. (Source: Facebook FY 2016 Earnings Report)
- Over 1.15 billion people accessed Facebook from mobile devices on an average day in December. (Source Facebook FY 2016 Earnings Report)
- By 2020, 75% of the world’s mobile data traffic will be video. (Source: Facebook Q3 2016 Earnings Report)
And where are people when they are on Facebook? They are are on News Feeds! Facebook serves adds directly into News Feeds, they are part of the content that users are already engaged in..
For advertisers the focus is no longer on "Likes", engagements etc but on driving business results, such as brand awareness, preference, loyalty, and sales.
Facebook has three key pillars of value for marketers which are:
- Targeted Reach
- Deep Engagement
- Proven Results
The power of Facebook's targeting, the shift to mobile and the ability of business to engage through New Feeds is a powerful combination.
