Expectations. Let's be realistic.
A friend of mine has just started University. She is doing a 4 year course in Health Care, Midwifery in fact. Yesterday she attended the second lecture of her long and exciting journey, where she was told that no practical work will be done in the first year. OK. Of course they don't allow unskilled students to go near the clients!
So her first year will be made up of reading, lectures, demonstrations and more reading. After 3 more years of study and practical training, she can begin employment and earning. On successful completion of the course she can expect to be very knowledgeable about midwifery and she can expect to be paid well for her specialized knowledge.
Relating my friend's story to my short time at WA, I also will read so much great information about internet marketing. It's a broad subject. Sometimes I feel like I am wasting time on all this reading, instead of getting on with the lessons. One link takes me to more reading and then inside that content is another link to more reading. I think there is sometimes a fine line between reading and procrastination. But hey! It's all relevant to the course and most of it is extremely useful. It does chew up a lot of time.
Imagine if I spent my first year just reading all that was available about internet marketing. I could expect to be pretty well informed on the subject. But here at WA we also have lots of practical exercises to use on a real website, which makes the learning real.
If I spend four years reading, learning, practicing, doing....I can expect to be pretty savvy about internet marketing. I can also expect that my specialized knowledge will earn a good income. However,it would be completely unrealistic of me to expect to earn huge money short term, no matter what I am studying.
Realistically, earning good money could take a while. A long while! Like any well trained midwife or builder or pilot... I need to do the background work before I can claim to be an expert and reap the rewards of my labor...pardon the pun!

Too true - I was looking at a 2 year plan - but if I had to extend it to 4 - that's okay too. However my goal is still 2.

I love WA because all expectations are handled forthright, in the very first lessons.
Thanks for that overview as you have put everything in perspective. Because, in the world of online programs we seem to get told that there's a magic button to earn millions, but it never seems to turn up. So realistically with WA after a few years we will be earning a great income and loving it I'm sure :) Cheers, Linda

Hi Whitsunday, Just so happened to stumble onto your great post, which I read with pleasure. A great way to put things in perspective. You are so right. I kinda feel like this is my second chance at school, and it is actually interesting this time :) Being a drop out I had lots of regret about how things went down in my teens, not being able to find a job that suits me. So now, as an adult, that's all in the passed and taking things in my own hands is GREAT! No one to expel me, except for maybe the money to pay for this college not being enough each month.. But other than that, nothing can stop me. That's a great post you wrote in February :)
