During the last few weeks I have recieved a LOT of spam emails from my on site "Contact Form"?

What is the best way to have this form set up so that it is humans that can enter emails into this form? and not some kind of robots/software just sending spam.

I use Akismet for my website comments and it works well.

Any help will be much appreciated.

Is there a way to also stop facke email signups to my blog? 1 of the ones I have had over 10 of in one day is ...@Tokyo.digital ? I want people to be able to subscribe but takes for ever to delete fakes 1 at a time and some I cant be sure of.

There are some great spam blocker plugins. Search for a few in your websites dashboard, and see if any of them work for you

ok thanks I check.

If your site is hosted at WA you should have site protect. Otherwise Antispam Bee is pretty good.

It's at wa. Still get some bad emails. As I got forum plugin it does delete inactives after what day I set. So after 30days they get deleted. Also put my email auto responder on confirmed opt-in to filter out the bad ones.

I get a few too but not so many.

im glad you don't get to many, sometimes its a couple weeks before I get another one. Ah well trial and error I gess

I activated the pre-installed WP-SpamsShield by WA that eliminates comments spam. I also use the Fast Secure Contact Form plugin for my contact form that includes CAPTCHA and Akismet support to block spammers. Hope this helps.

There is no single way to do things. I use Jetpack and it contains a program to block brute-force hacking attempts. The stats show there have been numerous hacking attempts over a period of time. So I use other plugins as well. Spam is a loose term. I have had both Yahoo Mail and Gmail toss incoming emails into the spam bin which were important.
Captcha has a flaw. It will keep machines from filling out a contact form but it will also scare away some humans who don't want to be hassled with Captcha.

there were some members having some problems with WP spamshield you do not need akismet if you have the other sometimes conflicts between plugins can cause problems

Thanks Guys great input,
I have gone for the google reCAPTCHA widget looks great and so far working fine.
Easy to set up and install...
One other thing that was un expected from this feature, it just looks great on the page and would give any visitor more confidents in that this site is very secure...?
Thanks again to everbody that made a comment here.
Go and have a look for your selves and make a comment if you wish..?

On my website I deleted Spamshield and shortly after doing so Google Pagespeed Insights said the server response time was far better. Was that really the cause? Some other members are recommending Antispam Bee. I saw a comment that said there problems with Spamshield. This is why I deleted it but I didn't know that it was causing slow server response.

Hi, to all that helped me with this problem, I like your knowledge on this subject KD!
I found that there was a problem with Akismet, the suppot team here at WA sorted it out for me.
But after experiencing this problem I have now put an other plugin in place called iThemes Security. Since I have installed this plugin I have had no problems, and for the emails I only get about 1 a week now, as oppossed to a few hundred a day...?
Thank you,
Cheers
Patrick.

I switched to WP antispam shield and it has been so much better

Can you add a captcha feature?

Hello Geoff, Yes I have done that also.

very helpful Thanks

I would check with some of those who have recommended different email capture/sign up programs - they probably know one that blocks bots!

Have you thought about using a double opt-in? You should be able to find a tutorial on this from someone here in WA.

I am more concerned with having a site hacked than junk emails. So I use IP GEO Block and Limit Login Attempts plugins. Are you sure you are not being hacked?

Hi There, I use AntiSpam Bee, it is a free plug in with Wordpress, some days I have thousands of potential spam emails/comments, but this plug in sorts them out and puts them in spam, all I have to do is go to 'comments' and delete the spam. Hope this helps? Cheers, Michael

Thank you for your info, my captcha was not working on my form, so I deleted my contact page. On comments it has worked fine.
