Saying Goodbye to Her Majesty

Today marks the passing of Queen Elizabeth II. It is a sad day that will be felt around the world for many - especially those in the U.K. and the Commonwealth countries.

Things will be forever changed as King Charles III will now take over the throne.

Her 70 year reign was the longest in British history. She saw 15 prime ministers (starting with Winston Churchill), post-war austerity, the end of the Cold War, as well as Britain's entry and exit out of the EU. What an incredible life she had.

She also had an impressively long 73 year marriage.

To think, she just welcomed in the new British PM in recent days.

How special that a rainbow was seen over Buckingham Palace today after her passing.

Having taken the throne so young in life, she was always steadfast in her duty. She kept her opinions private. She was a pillar of strength, stability and grace.

Living in a Commonwealth country, her presence is felt everyday. She is seen on the currency, and many highways and buildings include her name. It will be strange to think she's not there anymore.

I can't think of anyone who surpassed her sense of duty, self-sacrifice, dignity and selflessness. She is the only monarch many of us have ever known.

Her passing marks the end of an era.

Many years ago, my mom had the opportunity to see her on a tour. It was a moment she will never forget. I was too young to care at the time, but now wish I'd gone.

Although these are divisive times and many people are opposed to the monarchy, it is not the time for politicking. Let us remember the good she did, the strength she represented and the duty she served under many changing times.

God bless the Queen and long live the new King.

You wrote a wonderful piece on the passing of Queen Elizabeth. Last night I watched the documentary. A Queen Is Crowned. The last time I saw that was in a theater in Calcutta as a kid. Little Charles was present and referred to as the Duke of Cornwall. He has now passed that title to Prince William.

The funeral is going to be watched all over the world. But in a few days, at St. James Palace the stunning words will be claimed. The Queen Is Dead. Long Live The King. At that moment Charles will be officially considered the King even though he is the King right now.

Cheers.

Edwin

Thank you, Edwin...much appreciated for your thoughtful comments. I would like to see that documentary. It is quite something to be witnessing history in live time. Many eyes will be watching the upcoming events, (mine included) that will soon be unfolding.

Cheers,
Susan

I remember seeing her in New Zealand as a school boy. We all had a day off and lined the Main Street of Auckland, which is ironically called “ Queen street”
96 and 70 years working, what an amazing lady ( whatever your views about the monarchy) It will be a big role for Charles to fill.
Thanks
Stephen

That’s a great story, Stephen. You’re lucky to have seen her. I’m all to familiar with Queen streets as well. Agree with your sentiments. Thanks for sharing.

I sit and have watched the documentaries they have been showing all day about the long reign of our Queen and I still can't believe she is no longer with us. With heavy heart it saddens me to say a final goodbye God bless her. To a great lady, mother and grandmother our Queen 👑 💙🙏😥

It is hard to believe, agreed. She was a remarkable woman and leader. Her presence will be deeply missed by many. 🙏🥲👑

Wow, I didn't know she passed!

Thanks for the post, Susan :)

I always have the business news on in the background for a little while in the morning and this morning I heard them talking about how her doctors were very concerned and that the family was gathering around her.

But I usually only leave it on for about an hour or so, before turning it off and focusing more on my work.

So, I didn't realize that she passed away until I just saw your post.

I'm sorry to hear it, she was a steadfast Monarch as well as a High-Class Lady!

It's a sad day, Zach. I had heard the news regarding the family and the doctors as well this morning, but early this afternoon heard the tragic news.

Her conduct, grace and strength was something to be admired. Her guiding compass will be missed in this world.

Thanks for taking time to comment.

You're welcome and you're right Susan, no matter what people's views on Royalty are.

She was a widely loved and respected individual, especially since that's very hard for people of power to accomplish, not to mention someone who has had that type of position for so long :)

Thank you…You’re very right, Zach. What she accomplished and how she conducted herself will not be seen again. Her constant being will be missed. 🙏👑

Exactly, God Bless Her🙏

So sad :(
God bless the Queen and long live the new King.

Such a sad day, Simone. So hard to believe the day is here. 🙏

Me too
Still trying to take it all in :(

I am as well, Simone...trying to digest it all. Just so hard to believe and know that things will never be the same. She was one of a kind. 🤗

Definitely one of a kind, Susan
