Thanks for the post, Wendi. This topic raised a question of doubt on my side.

Would like to know whether in the event that we need to make any changes to our contents in terms of editing or insert/delete images, is it advisable to amend at Wordpress or Site Content?

Need advise on this.

Agnes

Agnes,
Here is what I have found so far.
After you publish, the only way that you can edit your post is thru WordPress. Now keep in mind that WordPress does NOT update to Site Content. So every word you add or take away will not show up in your Site Content Word Statistics.
You can update in WordPress and WA will be able to notify you that your article has been indexed AS LONG AS you do not edit the Title or PermaLink thru WordPress.
I hope that I have been able to explain this correctly.
My takeaway from all of this is that you should never edit your title or permalink after you have published. That's what I did and that is what caused my problem.
All the best,
Wendi ;)

Thanks a lot, Wendi.
Recently Kyle wrote a blog on "How To Automatically Compress Images for Website Speed". (Sorry! I'm still very new and I find difficulties to insert the link on Kyle's blog).

He mentioned that adding images in Site Content will automatically compress the images. Recently, I have added some images in Wordpress and it seems that the file size is too big and it slows down the speed of my website.

Therefore, it confused me whether I should update the images in Site Content instead of Wordpress.

Appreciate your advice,
Agnes

It is my understanding that if you take the picture yourself, even if you add it thru Site Content, you will need to compress it yourself. I was given this URL yesterday to compress my photos before I add them to my site. I will be trying this out today. You might want to look into this also.
https://tinypng.com
Hope it works for both of us.
I believe the images Kyle is talking about is the WA images that are offered thru Site Content. Those photos should already be compressed.
Hope this helps.
All the best,
Wendi :)

Thanks so much, Wendi for the sharing. Now I fully understood that any changes need to be done is through Wordpress.

In fact, I was not fully aware that there are free images available to made use of when am writing a new post at Site Content before publishing it. Need to find out the whereabout of these images available.

Thanks for the knowledge. There's something new that I learned today.

Cheers,
Agnes

One more question. May I know how to insert the relevant links whenever we reply to the community?

I tried copy the link from the URL and paste on the reply but it doesn't seem to work at all.

Agnes

It's fine to Edit in WordPress. Just don't edit the title or the permalink. That's what got me into trouble. I've edited in WordPress lots of times and it was OK. Just Never Edit the title in WordPress.

I'm sending you pictures of where to find the free WA pictures.
Hope this helps.
Wendi :)

The image I sent you was all done in Site Content where you write your articles.
Sorry, I forgot to mention that.
Hope this helps.
Wendi

I just typed their URL in manually.
Keep in mind, though, that WA does not allow us to put our own URL from our website on our WA blogs.
All the best,
Wendi :)

Hi Wendi,

Really appreciate your great help. There are still a lot of things to learn in the training and I am taking it one step at a time as I am still committed to my full time job.

Hopefully one day, am able to master the whole of the training taught in WA.

However, I do learn a lot from the community and trying my best to absorb as much knowledge as possible.

Cheers,
Agnes

Great question Wendi!
Thanks for asking, now I’ve learned something as well.
KyleAnn

That's great news KyleAnn. We live and learn. By sharing our experiences, maybe we can save others from having the same problems.
Glad it helped.
All the best,
Wendi :)

I have found that it doesn't. Once it's published for the first time, you should edit through the backend and hit update. The original stuff in site content doesn't change! I had messaged site support about this and this is my understanding :)

That's exactly right.
All the best,
Wendi :)

Hi Wendi, wow lot of great answers. I learned something.

Yeah, I know. Isn't this community just the greatest!!
Wendi :)

I have not noticed anything as of yet, but I will keep an eye out for it!

No, it does not. Once the article is published, you can only edit in WordPress. But the content does not get updated in site content.

Google crawl every now and then. It will pick up your edited version with time.

Interesting question I want to know as well, thank you, Wendi.

Best Wishes,
Bushra

Hi there Bushra.
I don't know if you read what WayneTowns wrote. He says WordPress does not update Site Content.
I'll certainly be more careful to get my Meta Title right before I push that crazy publish button.
It was nice to find out that those 3 posts were indexed, though. I will just have to remember that my writing statistics are always going to be short by 3 on the indexed posts and that my words written will be short by about 1000 words.
Anyway, you live and learn.
All the best,
Wendi

Thank you so much, Wendi
I appreciate it.

Wishing you the best of luck.
Bushra

I don't have this problem. Only in my 'Plugin', it recently asks if you want to upgrade your WordPress. I suppose that it is your choice. I am ok with my current WordPress. If I find something abnormal in Site Manager or Site Content, I would check it with the IT support.

Thanks. I think I have received my answer.
All the best,
Wendi :)

No, once your article gets published it is in Word Press. Any updates will stay there.

So, does that explain why even though they are indexed in Google, Site Content doesn't show it? All three of these articles had the names tweaked a little bit.

Yes, Wenda. Wayne has answered your question, but you have change the Premalink you need to redirect your old ULR to new ULR. Because anyone click on your old ULR will direct to a 404 page that give a bad UX.

I am interested in this as well. Where would you change the permalink in WA? I see it in Wordpress but not in WA. How would I update the permalink in WA so it matches Wordpress?

That's right. I did do all of that within WordPress. But since WordPress doesn't update Site Content it didn't show up there.
I'm just going to have to be way more careful of my Title before I push that publish button.
All the best,
Wendi :)

You cannot change the premalink in WA (site content) once the post/page has been published. There is no needs to do so as google only crawl your website ulr in WordPress.

I have this same question Wenda Sue. We will have to wait for replies.
Lloyd

That's great Lloyd. I think I'm going to have to check and double check and then double check again before I push that Publish button. LOL
All the best,
Wendi :)

If you changed the name in WP it is not going to show up in WA Site Content. After you change it in WP and not Site Content you have to put the new keywords or name in Jaxy site rank to see where it is indexed or if it is indexed. Don't know if this explains it but once it is published by way of site content that is the way WA sees it. If you change it in WP, WA does not see it that way.

Thank you Wayne I was thinking the same thing.
Lloyd

Me too. Good luck-

Hey Wendi,
Why could you not just add a catagorary that you will link to in other articles to show how it is all related. This is what I did on my site that I have. It was too narrow to discuss just cloth dipers so I also began changing tables, diaper bags, accesories. Of course I also have a store where I sell all these produces so there are links to that. Hope this make sense.

Elaine

Probably just what I will do, Elaine.
Thanks so much.

Why not start a new site and link to the new one from the old one...

I may eventually do that, Dave. But right now, I think I will just keep it like it is and broaden it a little thru my description.
I need to stick with this one a little longer. It's finally starting to rank and get traffic. I think I just got a little antsy.
All the best
Wendi :)

As long as you transfer your website from one URL to another and DO NOT delete your old site for a bit your rankings and everything should transfer along with it as it will be redirected to your new domain until google learns the new one.

Thanks so much.
I'm checking into this. I really appreciate your help.
Wendi

Yes It is the same way as transfering your domain from siterubix to your own essentially.

I too, went too narrow wit mine. But since I paid for my domain name, I wasn't going to pay for a new name, and 'start all over again' with the google indexing.

I should've asked, like you have.

Instead I did this....my site name is takinbackcontroldotcom, my title of my blog is The Senior Life - 50 and beyond. In my description of my blog is where I kinda implied how the 2 different names tied together. Does that make sense??

I described my blog as "Where to come to be encouraged to finally put ourselves first! It is our time!! Our time to learn something new. Our time to try anything we want. Time to make new memories! Share new experiences. Having fun & enjoying the second half of our lives!!"

Can you see where in my description, is the notion that I'm/we're/you are takinbackcontrol?? Please say yes, cause that's how I'm so hoping it's coming across to my readers.

And that it's not hurting my ranking, because in my tags for each post is where my keywords will be.

Oh my, I hope this is making sense...lol.

AND if anyone is reading this thinks/knows this won't work, PLEASE TELL ME!!

I hope this is helped WendaSue
Laura

Hi Laura.
It all does make sense. It looks to me like I'm finding that there are 2 ways I can go here.
1. Exactly like you did. I'm not so sure that will work with me though. My official URL is ... being careful here... Creative Baby Photo Props...
If I change my Header name to something like Great Family Photos, is the fact that it's not all about baby props going to throw some people? Or even possibly offend some? I'm not sure.
2. I could purchase a new dot com and switch everything over from my website like I did when I switched from siterubix.
What do you think?
Wendi

Wendi why don't you just keep it as a mini-site and create a second photo site since you like the niche. Baby photo props...sounds like there's more to explore there. How about clothes for a baby photo shoot.

How do you dress a baby for a photo shoot? How do you prepare a baby for a photo shoot? Are there tips or tricks to getting a good shot of a baby because kids are not easy to photograph. What kind of props do you discuss? Are there reviews for each one? Do you see where I'm going with this? And then create a second site for family photography.

If that doesn't work for you, then, yes, a family photography site with a sub-category for babies, would do fine.

But if it was me, I would build up that baby site and sell it first.

Thanks, Wendy. I really appreciate all your input. I will probably keep this site and create a new creative photography site. I love photography. So much to be said. I felt like I had just exhausted the baby props side of it. But I can still do a lot more on baby and children photography.
All the best,
Wendi

If I was good at graphics, I would make them and sell them in packs. A lot of marketers do that. I would also start a blog called graphicsmadeasy.com (that domain is available - go for it.) and teach people some simple graphics tricks with affiliate links to a site like Canva.

I'm sure there are also sites that will take submissions for graphics and sell them for you online and pay you a fee like the photo sites do.

How fortunate that you have a skill set like that. I can't draw a straight line.

I know lot's of 50 something's that have no control, or are out of control, or will never regain control, etc. I can assure you a blog won't help them. ;-)

Peace,
Wendy

I don't think you can change the name, but you can definitely broaden the niche. You can use an invitation "click here to discover the world of family photography..." and open it up onto a new page or post. From there you can work a whole new field of business

Thanks so much. That's also a great idea.
Be awesome today.
Wendi :)

I think you should be able to go in either direction without the damage. What is the site's name at this time? Will it point in a different direction from "Family Photography"?

I tried aerial photography and the site name is "HireView.net", worked for me.

My site's name is Creative Baby Photo Props.
It's been mentioned that I could switch my website name, but not the URL. Do you know if this is correct?
I would love to name my website Family Photography, but just leave my URL what it already is. That way I won't lose my traffic.
Do you think that might work?
Wendi

I think it's possible to broaden the niche, but not sure about changing the name. I think you can change the name, but not the url name. I'm not sure if i'm saying that right. If you site is called Photo Props, you can change that to Family Photos (or whatever), but not the URL www .photoprops. com (or whatever it's called). Does that make sense? I hope this helps.

Yes, Karin. That does make sense. I think you are saying that I can change my Header Name on the website, but not the URL.

I think once you own a domain name, you can't change it. However, you CAN still write about ideas revolving your niche and build your site that way if it helps for your blogs, promotions, etc.

I was wondering about that. As long as I keep it about photography, maybe it wouldn't all have to be about baby props. I've done a few articles already about things like this. For instance, I wrote a little about the copyright laws. Things like that. Still concerning photography, but not just props.
Thanks for your help.

Oh, I was hoping for a different answer. But, I am afraid that you are right. I just hate to lose the traffic that I have finally started to generate. Do you think I could broaden the website without changing the name? The name is creative baby photo props.
What if I updated the About Me page to explain that I am recognizing the request of my readers to expand my writings to include the whole family photo, not just the baby props? I don't know if that would work. I'm feeling a little desperate.

If I did that, would it be like starting over with traffic and ranking?

Please don't ask me how I did it, but I failed to register my site with Bing.

Ok. So now I have submitted my sitemap and am in the process of getting it verified. Now, i

I too had not registered with Bing. When I tried just now I received a message that said all services were down and they were working to resolve the issue.
Anyone else seeing that?
Thanks.
KyleAnn

Yes, I did see that when I was checking back to see if my I was verified yet. Hope I don't have to start all over. UGH!!
All the best,
Wendi :)

Hi Wendi, all good answers below.

Thanks.
Wendi

Indexing is the smallest problem. That's what you get. Look at bing just like google on error pages and eliminate them. This often prevents a good placement

OK. Great advice. Thanks.
Wendi

When you need detail infos write me

OK, my friend. But, you may regret that offer. LOL

Hi
You go to bing webmaster tools and enter your "XML" file there
Example: my domain / sitemap.xml
The spider reads you out and indexes all your pages automatically

Thanks so much.
Wendi

Hi Wendy,

With Bing Webmaster Tool, you only need to submit your sitemap. It will do the crawling.
There is something similar to fetching in G where it allows you to submit 10 urls per day but limited to 50 urls per month (which more than enough).

Hope that help. (see the image for better illustration)

Joe

Hi Joe.
So, it won't help my ranking to go ahead and submit my URL's?
Or should I? I'm still a little confused. Sorry.
Wendi

You can submit your urls to get Bing to crawl them now.
I would suggest start with the old posts. Otherwise, let Bing do the crawling naturally.

Joe

Thanks, Joe.
All the best,
Wendi

My pleasure Wendi.

I am trying to find my Jaaxy ID. Can anyone help me find it?

If you have problem finding the page TEETENG95 showed below, you first click on the gear symbol (settings) on the first Jaaxy page. It is located in the bottom right hand corner.

Hello Wendi,
I am just going to say ditto with everyone else on being patient due to not knowing when you will get comments on your website. A comment just appeared on my website that was done 2 months ago. Can you explain that one! Doesn't make sense. They will come, just give it some time.
Marylou

Thanks Marylou. I guess this is just a good lesson in patience. (One of my weak points)
Wendi

It takes time sometimes, but other times you can get an answer quickly.
All the best.

Yup, as Guy said sometimes it takes time before people give their comments. As long as you credit still there, you are fine. Just wait... :)

Thanks Joe.
W

Try this thread, just follow the rules and you will get all the comments you want.

I'm trying that right now. Thanks my Friend.

you're welcome

Yes. Sometime it can take time before someone comment on our posts... :-) Other times it goes faster.

Some posts where I've seen people commenting a lot was where they were ask their opinion, or any other kind of questions, like, if for instance, you write a posts about the different books that help you get more success, you can ask the reader what are the books that help them.

Great Idea. Thanks. Have an awesome day.
Wendi

Thanks Wendi. Have a great one too!

AAWWW Kenny!!! LOL
I put a like by that statement, not because you told me to have patience, but because you called my Young! hahaha

hahahaha

Patience young lady! Patience! hahaha

kenny

You did the right thing, it just may take some time. I have two requests that are active and have been for a couple of days.

Thanks for the help. I really think the only problem is that I'm not very good with patience. LOL
All the best,
Wendi

OK. Thanks. It is showing as active. I guess that's a good thing. My first time for comments. Feedback was almost always within the hour just about. LOL Guess I'm impatient.
Thanks again,
Wendi

No worries Wendi..

Like I say it happens sometimes... about 6 weeks ago .. I put one of my posts for 10 comments over 14 days .. they are still not finished :)

Patience Patience :)

Chris

LOL Not something I am very good at.
Thanks for the help.

:) Your welcome

Sometimes they do not come through straight away.

It has happened to me and I have waited 3 and 4 days... if the comment is showing as waiting .. it will come :)
