I've been seeing questions and people talking about WA hosting backups, some members are under the impression they don't really need to create thier own backups because WA takes

I'd like to know this as well. @welshy, I used your tutorial to put in the WP backup plugin. It worked fine to back up my site to Dropbox. But ever since I added a premium theme from MyThemeShop.com, I get this error that says....ERROR: Dropbox API: (503) This indicates a transient server error.

When I look in the Display Working Log - There are 16 errors that deal with the content cashe minify.

I don't know what this means or how to fix it. Here's one of the errors that I copied....

WARNING: File name "wp-content/cache/minify/000000/ZU9JDoMwDPxQg9sDDzLBiIjFkScQ9fcNQVStOFmzeMZuqWeMweuKZgnroyXuy3QdW8Uv0pgKHtQWkAdOXGERc3Qme5BMDEg6HV_yMKj10QRwEK1qzb_in8Tmx5DEJ0J6z_LH1Lo8N55NN8h8Ewddk-Ms0EVueYehNMfyWtil3NKxn3Lc4u-tF3dsfwA.css" is too long to be saved correctly in TarGz archive!

Do you have any idea of what I need to do. Should I go back to the method that Kyle gives us in Bootcamp? Thoughts

You could use the WP Optimize Plugin to clean up the transient errors.

Then try doing the back up again.

Are you using the WP Clone plugin? ~Jude

You need to exclude the cache folder wp-content/cache as the file names are too long, plus no need to backup cache files.

As for the other error, I would try disconnect from Dropbox and then re-authenticate.

Yes, I like wp-clone too, I use it on clients sites as they rarely edit any content, it's a manual process but works well.

Thanks Jude, appreciate your help

Thanks Welshy for answering me.

Do you mean that I go into my Jobs section of WB Backup, then go to Files, then go to Backup content folder, and then click to Exclude the cache?

I just don't want to mess anything up here. Thanks, Todd

I would recommend that you do your own back-up. I''ve seen cases where WA Support was not able to help. So I suggest that you do a backup everyday. It really doesn't take that long to do it. Maybe two or three minutes. Not much when you campare with the hours it will take to replace the content you have developed.

Hi Larry,
I agree, Kyle even covers this is one of the courses.
I'm just looking for the official answer on how far back WA backups can go if one needs a site restored.

How about if Kyle or Carson come up with an answer to that question?

Hi Craig - good question - I'd be interested to know if it can be restored at all?

Or is it just a server that's backed up, and can be restored if there is an issue with the server as a whole - ie. everyone's website gets restored to a point in time.

If it's individual website restoration, then would it include the database, as well as the PHP files?

Probably a good idea not to assume that it can be done, until WA confirms either way. I'll keep my own backups running as per your updated guide here: Cheers, Mark

Hi Mark, I agree, good idea to create your own either way.
Just going over my email, thanks for the other comment with the QSR script.

For the past several months I've heard that you need to mix up your anchor link text.

So if my domain is a keyword rich domain, example FixMyTruck.com and

Thank you Craig, for another of your greatest tips. Think if we do too much of one thing, can get us into trouble. There seems to be the good and the bad of backlink anchor links. So we mix it up. ^_~

Good answers below from our awesome WAers. Thanks for bringing this up

something new for me, see you have had some good advice hope it all works out

I learn something new here everyday - never even heard of anchor link text before...

:)

Trialynn has suggested you well in this case.

Appreciate your input everyone, thanks.

Hey Craig,

I think it's very similar to Latent Semantic Indexing with keywords. If you mix up the anchor text in a way that is natural but different, it probably will help. But as with anything in this business, it should seem natural and people shouldn't do it solely because they think it may help their search engine rankings.

Best Regards,
Jim

You should vary anchor text. This is because as search engine optimizers have learnt that anchor text helps improve search engine rankings they inevitably built incredible number of webpages that link to their websites using identical anchor text. Naturally, search engines soon gotten onto this trick and filter out those links because such linking patterns appear unnatural.

you can find more info about why it is bad to exact match.
http://blog.act-on.com/2013/07/5-reasons-why-exact-match-anchor-text-emat-is-bad/

This is a good article thx.

Great article Terea - Thanks for sharing!

Glad you got some good information from it!

This sounds important but I'm not exactly sure what back link anchor text is, any easy description or should I look it up in depth? Lol

Anchor Text Definition

Anchor text is the clickable text in a hyperlink. SEO best practices dictate that anchor text be relevant to the page you're linking to, rather than generic text. The blue, underlined anchor text is the most common as it is the web standard, although it is possible to change the color and underlining through html code. Anchor texts are one of the many signals search engines use to determine the topic of a web page, and can direct to an internal or external web page.

Thanks Terea, Helpful as always!

welcome!

Do you have any plans on getting videos indexed that are being added to WA?
I understand that the resource page gets indexed, but the videos aren't being picked up.

Wou

Thanks for chiming in Randy, I was referring to video thumbnails.
Many times when you search Google you'll see links to Youtube etc with a video image.
You can do the same thing with your own site and videos.

For Wealthy Affiliate it would look like this http://take.ms/rlJWO

I have no idea what this means, but I figured I would chime in because there are ZERO comments after 6 months.

Yoast Breadcrumbs plug-in has a custom post type fix. It was too complicated for me, but for you....just wanted to add my 1cent...you have been a great help to me. ^_~

Good Question! I need the answer also!

Hey Craig.

I'm with @DanaB on this, I'd only use breadcrumbs if they added value to a visitor. I wouldn't use them on a small site, but only if I was implementing a parent and child scheme of pages, posts and categories and then I'd probably remove the "last" item from the trail. For example, I don't think the above example would add any visitor value but something like:

Power Supplies > Batteries > Rechargeable > Size >

would enable a visitor to quickly switch back to another option, ie. by clicking on "Batteries" they could move to "Disposable" from "Rechargeable" rather than starting over, etc.

Just my 2¢.

Rich.

Hey, Rich...Your 2 cents worth are always worth a million bucks! Thanks...Cleared some things up for me...

Me myself I like to have them. I am the opposite of Dana. (First off I didn't even know of an option to turn them on or off son I don't have the as of right now) But on my site thereare pages uunder pages. So it isn't going to necessarily stand alone all the time. Like I said I do like them on sites so that way I can go back just one section or more if I want.

Now since you have people who use them, not use them, like them, and others who think they are distracting. What it comes down to is if you like them or not, because you have the whole gambit here now.

I have never used them on anyone else's site, but I have always left them on. From an SEO perspective, I don't have any insight. It would be my guess that they have very little impact for the SERPs, unless you count CTR and bounce rate, in which case I think they could potentially help some people that pay attention to them.

Then again, using fewer unnecessary things on a site makes for a cleaner, more professional look. So, no real answers from my corner, just some ideas.

I see this was two years ago, Nathaniell. Do you still have the same opinion on breadcrumbs?
Or have you in those two years found out that they are really useful?

I changed my mind about SEO impact. I think they can have some impact on a site because technically it's an internal link.

However, I still never use them for navigation. I have them on my own site just because I know some people use them and I think they can help with SEO (a little bit, and only if they are good keywords).

I don't have evidence either way, so am just guessing based on what I've read.

Thanks - very interesting and watching for the responses,
Hudson.

I display on Post but not Pages and I will tell you why....

A Page is a page...it links to nothing and is sitting all by itself. Really not much of a team player.

A Post you tend to group into Categories. Example:You are here: Home / Aquaponics / Aquaponics supplies.

What this does is allows the Visitor an ability to see what category they are in while they are reading your post and then find this category in your drop-down list to find more post of this same subject that interest them.

So breadcrumbs on my Post but not on my Pages

Good points. I think I have them turned on for my Pages but will change that.

Coming in from the User side..how many times have you got lost on a big/medium site and had to look up and see those Breadcrumbs or wished there were breadcrumbs so you knew what Category that "article" was sitting in...

A page is normally in the Menu so finding it is usually not as difficult as it is trying to find a post.

Thank you for posting this, because you actually really cleared something up for me. Because I didn't know what the "categories" were for and I was always trying to get rid of that widget. NOW, I see! You've helped me immensely! Thanks...

Great question and I will watch for the answers. I've just enabled the bread crumbs on my site and have been curious, too. One thing that I will note is that we are heavily into working from computers at work and will often forward these types of links to co-workers so they can follow the path to the document. So they are useful there.

I feel like it's just unnecessary and kind of a distraction. Pretty sure google can't even see breadcrumbs and would just be a user experience thing if you preferred it

FYI...traffic speaks to Google. Breadcrumbs help the User, so in a sense you want that User experience to be good so Google will notice you correct?
