Anyone that knows why WA hosting does not provide CPanel admin access?

I have such access on websites hosted with other hosting providers, and it makes life a bit easier with some tasks without the need to go via SiteSupport.

There's no cPanel access, but you can access all of your back end stuff via FTP. cPanel is usually for stuff like email or domains as well, but you have access to that with various WA tools like SiteDomains.

You can definitely manage your site without contacting SiteSupport. Speaking from my own experience, it was a little annoying to transition, but now I prefer FTP. Less clunky and I can get directly where I need to go!

Thank you, Nathaniell for the clarification 😃👍🏼 The SiteDomains tool has been a little bit limiting in relation to adjustments of some settings for my domains. But I have found a way to use another domain for it when it has been necessary.

I have used the FTP several times for my back end stuff as well and find it as an easy to use method.

They used to have Plesk, but did away with it to eliminate security vulnerabilities: I’m sure the added benefit of not having to pay for Plesk/cPanel licenses was a factor as well.

I prefer doing things myself as well, but SiteSupport has such great response times that I really don’t mind having to open tickets to update DNS records and other things.

Thanks for the update on the topic, Thomas. even if the blog post link is from 2012, it seems quite clearly to explain the decisions of removing access to cpanel and it is mainly due to security and stability.

Never thought about that as I am not very techie :) I do my best to learn. I am very content with the WA support and I have been so grateful for their help. I have only had a few issues that were pressing myself and can understand the frustration of having to wait for a reply especially if you know you could fix things easily yourself I guess.
The most important thing for me is that everything works smoothly. WA support replies quickly normally.

Me too, Hilde. WA site support has been very good and quick, every time I have had use for their assistance.

Most of my domains are hosted on the WA platform. The other websites I have, I had before I became a WA member and consider moving them over to WA hosting, except one which I administer for the martial arts club I am a member of.

Wow, I learn new things here reading the comment. Thanks for the insight. I heard of cpanel but never really know what it does. Still a bit hazy but something to note.

But does it mean that WA hosting is actually not as lightning fast as it claims to be?

Not at all, Richard. Rest assured that the WA hosting is very good and lightning-fast.

There are so many factors that impact the speed of your website, and no one on the WA platform should be concerned with the hosting or its speed.

What is being discussed here, cpanel, is more of special interest on the technical side. I am a nerd of details in things and that makes me dig too much into some of this stuff.

The cpanel gives you access to adjust how your hosting behaves with redirects, aliases, forwarding, timings and more of your domain.

If there is any need to have any of these adjusted, the best way is to open a support ticket to SiteSupport.

Most other hosts do not offer managed WordPress hosting, meaning you have to do things yourself - that's why they provide cPanel, to let you figure it out (and also to put the onus on you to fix things if you break it).

WA offers managed hosting, so no need for cPanel because it's taken care of for you by SiteSupport.

cPanel also requires a licensing fee.

Thanks, Dale 💯👍🏼. But I have another web hosting provider who does this with managed WordPress hosting. They provide access to CPanel admin. The hosting is very fast, the cost is reasonable, so it is a bit of a puzzle to me why it is not offered at WA,. But as I said in my post, I expect that it is to prevent creating any problems if you mess up not knowing what you do when working in the Cpanel.
