I am having trouble signing into webmasters tools. It is asking me to add a verification code to my website. Where do I add that code?

Paste your Google verification code to your Header.php. Go to your WordPress Dashboard, under Appearance click the Theme Editor, then look for header.php at the right column. Click it and it will open, then in between head and body paste your code. It should be on the first line of the head Be sure to update it after pasting.

I would not suggest this option but use All in One SEO or one of the other options suggested here. Touching the php files is not a good option unless you really know what you are doing. And also, unless you have a child theme, every time your theme will be updated you will lose whatever has been added to the php. So the other methods gerd are a lot more simple and I would suggest to use them.

Well, I'm just following what Google verification is instructing. If it's not instructed we should not do it.

If you have done it that way Jimmy, just make sure to check after you update your theme. Because if not, you risk whatever you c in the pho will not be there anymore unless you use a child theme. The Google verification instructions will not tell you this

I oftentimes see some of the codes entered are being removed for an unknown reasons. However, it is my impression that when your site is already verified it will never change the fact that you are the owner of it.

On your Google Search Console dashboard click Settings and you should see the image below that you are a verified owner. If it says another you have to verify it.

Hi,

If you are using All in One SEO plugin: -

Click on All in One SEO in WP Admin Area.

Go to General settings.

Scroll Down To Webmaster Verification if you want to enter the verification for Google Search console

OR

Scroll down to Google Analytics if you want to enter the verification for Google Analytics.

Once you have done this scroll down and click on Update Options.

Finally go back to Google and click on verify.

Hope this helps.

you add it to the header in the editor between the <head> and </head> section, but it is easier to use the Insert headers and Fotters plugin, that way you are not messing with the themes coding and if yoiur theme is updated at any time the code will remain in place
