Trying to come up with domain names that are brandable. Not sure what those qualities would be.

Some of the characteristics I know are:
- short (some say less than 13 char)
- easy to remember
- easy to spell
- related to your target audience
- describe your niche
- .com (has higher premium)
- no special characters (eg hyphens etc)

Something short, sweet and sticks in your head like a jingle, easy to remember.

Ah, branding. There are literally hundreds of full-length books written on the subject. But here are a couple of tips to get your started.

A good rule of thumb is to make it something related to your niche. This helps the potential audience know what they are looking at. For instance, is there any doubt what Photography.com is about?

But this is not a hard and fast rule, as you'll see in a minute...

Most importantly, try to make it something short and memorable, and easy to roll off the tongue. For example, which is easier to remember, Google or ChristinesTrinketsAndOtherNonRelatedItems.com ? :-)

Which brings us back to point one. How many people knew what a "Google" was before they came along, and how many people know exactly what it is now?

In a nutshell, it's really all about coming up with something that sticks in people's mind.

Hope this helps :-)

No worries. Glad to help. For what it's worth, when I was in grad school we spent an entire semester on the subject, so it is most certainly not "intuitive". lol

Oh my! That was a fun class. When I was in grad school, none of this even existed!! Lol!

Hahaha... yeah, well don't be too impressed. I quickly learned afterwards that about 90% of what I learned was all textbook theory anyway; most of it doesn't really help with what we're doing. My wife says the diploma looks great in my office, though, so I got that going for me :-)

Theory and reality aren't the same thing!? Oh no!!! Haha. One of the many reasons I'm no longer in higher education with more degrees than a thermometer! But yes, the diplomas do look very impressive on the wall. Have a great weekend!

Hi, in order to find a good domain name, try searching for your topic and see what's out there. That will give you an idea of how to work in a good keyword. Then go over to Jaaxy research and see if your keyword phrase is available.

I spent 2 days trying to find a keyword that was available, but I think the time spent was worth it.

Good luck
