Hi All;
I haven't seen anything about Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools in all the GDPR hoopla.
Does it affect their use, or do they not collect personal data based on the working definition?
Thanks!
Stella

Update: I will add this because Kyle saw my question on his blog post. He says that GSC and BWT don't figure in the discussion because they do not collect personally identifying data. So, if you were wondering, too, there it is.

Thanks to all who responded. :-)

Great question Stella!

This is all such a complex thing!
May it all end well.

I haven't heard anything about that but I hope everything will be much clearer soon.
All the best.

Hey Stella,

Google has sent out emails regarding data retention, which is due to the GDPR regulations. As for Bing... huh! I haven't heard anything from them. Guess it may be time to sign into my Bing account and find out.

Hope this helps you.

Thanks!

No, the email doesn't address it. I didn't see anything about them on WA.
I also checked the Google forums. A couple of people asked about it there, but didn't really get an answer that was clear.

But then, nothing about this is clear, is it? Lol

Are you saying that Google did not send you a data retention notice Stella? If so, that is due to their having to comply to GDPR in Google Analytics... honest.

You're right... nothing about this GDPR is "clear cut" at all... but then, what else is new when it comes to "new regulations" of any sort. LOL.

Oh yes, I have the email. But there isn't anything in there about Search Console.

I'm not asking about Analytics. I've seen all that material. But there hasn't been any mention of Search Console or Bing Webmaster.

I've been assuming they don't collect what is defined as personal data. But I wondered if I missed something about them.

Sorry for confusion. :-)

Google Analytics resides in the Google Search Console and is the ONLY tracking/collecting of data within Google Search Console.

Okay, maybe I'm really confused. :-)
I know they can be linked, but I thought they were two completely different entities belonging to Google. I assumed this because the setup for each can be independent of the other. You don't automatically have one if you have the other.

Google Search Console used to be called Google Webmaster Tools, and yes they do ask us to setup for each little piece of their real estate but Google expects us to use the same gmail account so the accounts are all "connected".

Thanks, Trish!
I've kinda given up on the question.
I spent time today checking all kinds of forums and others have asked the same question that I'm asking, too.
And, it looks like even the Google experts don't even have an answer.
Plus, there isn't really anything about Bing W Tools. It seems to be a very gray area. But thanks again for taking time with your comments. :-)
