Hey guys I've got some programs approved through Commission junction and I'm trying to figure out CJ's platform.

Firstly I have the option to choose between HTML links, Java Script, click URL or Image URL; Which of these should I choose.

Next there are three check boxes that I have to choose one, none or all of the boxes and they are as follows:

Encrypt Link? (What does this mean?)
Hide tracking code in link? (If I dont check this one, do I not get payed if someone buys?)
Set link to open a new browser window? (I know what this means)

So if anyone understands this, could you advise me on the right way to do things please.

Jason, did not try myself but found this info on some forums
"Encrypted links many cookie hijacking programs can overwrite your cookie and replace it with their own. however, if you encrypt your link it's harder for the scumware to overwrite your cookie. encrypt link - encrypts the code to help fight against ad blockers, doing so tho makes the pages and ads load a little slower. Don't think you can do anything about that if you encrypt the link. "hide tracking code in the link - will use some program to change the link in the way that your affiliate code will not show .
reading different forums about the topic i found that most of the people do not recommend to use any of this.
most likely you cant skip both options

Hi Jason

Which one you select depends on what you want to show..

Is it a banner? If so, choose HTML
Is it a deep link you want to enter manually into text on a page/post? If so, select URL

I don't bother with javascript as it's not always compatible with every browser.

Encrypt Link? Is for protection against scumware - stops your link being hijacked

Hide tracking code in link? The code is still there, it's not visible to the visitor who clicks on it.

I would tick both boxes, if it were me.

Each publisher has their own way of doing things on CJ. I am an affiliate for Debenhams and I had to email them to work out how to use their links.. they sent me a spreadsheet where I could create my own deeplinks. So, some of the above might be publisher dependent.

Hope that helps a bit.

I want to add a clickable product image to my sidebar. I have joined B&B Ireland and want to show nearby guest houses in relation to the post. Should I use HTML?

When you say clickable product image, are you talking about one of their banners?

No it give you the choice of products rather than links, do you know what I mean

OK, I see what you're saying. So, after you've ticked the boxes you want (encrypt/hide code/open in new window), go down and click update so the code now includes those options, then highlight the image HTML code (see attached) and paste that into one of your sidebar widgets. Easy peasy.. (or it should be.. let me know if you have any problems).

Now, if you had wanted to add a text link 'click here' or something into a post/page then you would select the click URL tab and copy that link into WP editor the same way you would do any other text link on your site.

P.S. You can fill in the SID box with a reference, i.e. 'sidebar' if you want to track exact clicks through... but don't forget to update the code before you grab it.

I seem to be having the problem that all the images dont work and appear as broken links, it still brings me throught to the listing when clicked. Check this post http://whatisinireland.com/all-about-doagh-island-famine-village and see, on the right below the map you should see what I am talking about

Hmmm...Let me go and have a play around with it on my site.. BRB.

Jason, can you try opening a new post or page and copying the code into the text tab of your editor? Then go grab another random code and do the same. When you have done this, go to the visual tab and you should be able to see the images there. Let me know what happens. There are workarounds, but it depends on whether this is a problem with the link or not.

Hang on a sec, did you tick the javascript box?

See attached, I looked up the source data and it appears you have a javascript code?

I got your images fine, I decided only to use the Javascript after I got the exact smae response with the HTML

Did you try out another product to see if that was the same?

If so, I suggest contacting B&B Ireland through CJ and asking them. In my experience, the account managers are pretty quick to respond and help you out.

Let us know how you go..

I actually just got word back there a few mins ago. I spoke to the contact that I originally spoke to before she revealed I had to go through CJ to join the program. She's not very helpful and said "I don't think we use those too much any more, but I can give you some generic banners", thats a load of crap in my opinion, I only joined because I was looking forward to having the full range of B&B's and being able to guide people to accommodation that is near the point of interest that I am speaking of in my posts.

That's not very good PR from their side. How disappointing!

I guess that's why the images didn't show - sounds like they're not being maintained.

If they give you some generic banners, you could always link them to a search for properties in the area you are talking about in your specific post. Or, you could ask if they are happy to let you take screen grabs and just make your own.. With any image you can create your own banner, you just need to understand how to put together the link with the tracking. I've done it a few times, if you want to go this route, PM me and I'll try to help.

I just don't quite know how to do that for a sidebar, I have custom sidebars and I don't yet know how to add images never mind making them clickable links. Karen will be emailing me back later (if shes not sick of me at this point, her answers are always very short and blunt) so I will put this idea by here about screen captures.

It just may work out a bit too time consuming, I may just use the banners unless another program is available.

It's a two minute job, I promise. All you need is the image and the link.. :)

Hi Jason. I have been approved also but to be honest I am totally lost on how to work this. Is it as complicated as it looks. (I wonder)
