Hi everyone,

I'm busy trying to make a new homepage, starting with the hero image (or what's it called lol).
I bought a nice element on Canva, representing a search button and I would like to add it in there.
How do make that button clickable to actually be able to search my website?
See screenshot below
thanks!

Hey Lizzy,

If you are using the HIERO theme... the DO provide a search feature in the sidebar widget. See screen print below...

Which Editor are you using, the Block Editor or the Classic Editor?

If you want to change their button to be an image, you will need to create a child theme, then find the file that is used in creating the search feature, and tweak THAT file from inside your child theme so that you can keep the changes made when your theme updates in the future.

Hope you find this helpful.

Hi Triblu,

Thanks, but I use the GP theme. I am making the hero image with canva and then I want to use the block editor.
Oh wait a minute, I can use elements in GP press, no? And then link to a 'search' code somehow? Or am I way off here? *confused
I dont understand the child theme thing at all sorry.
Maybe I shouldn't make it hard on myself like this and just put a search widget somewhere else on my homepage lol.

If you are NOT using the HIERO theme, then you can disregard my suggestion for adding a child theme.

So, now if I understand your question better, Hero is a Header block in the GenerateBlocks plugin, correct?

If yes, then you will need to either try searching Google with something like: "how to add an image to GenerateBlocks Hero header" ...but WITHOUT the quotation marks.

OR

Better still... you could sign into your GeneratePress account and leave a ticket to their support staff, asking for help to do whatever you are wanting to do.

That is a MAJOR benefit of purchasing the GeneratePress theme. Their staff are more than willing to assist you whenever your need arises.

Hope this helps you.

There are plugins for this, but it is not worth having it for this purpose only. Better use ordinary search button because your visitors are used to its shape and can easily recognize it and use it.

if your theme has a search page template then you can link to that ...
if not then it is a bit more difficult...
phil
there is a search widget which has a button ...if you can find out what that is called then you can replace it with your image...possibly

Thank you Feigner, that sounds complicated haha.
I use Generate Press, so not sure if a search page template is in there, will have to figure that out.
Yes I now have a search widget on my website already, it's just that I didn't have a real homepage yet (my homepage is my blog roll) and I want to work on that without using side widgets.

To be honest, I'm a little confused here.
So first thing to do, is look for a search page template, and then I will get back to you, thanks;-)
