My domain doesn't really tie into my topic 'Travel Bags." I understand that a domain should make reference to a website topic, which in my case is 'Travel bags.'

I know this can be confusing to my visitors and I want to avoid it at all costs. Is there a way I can easily change my domain name but and at the same time be able to keep my content?

Thanking you in advance for your help.

You wouldn't exactly be changing your domain name. You'd still have the current domain name (whatever your current URL for your travel bag site), as long as you maintain the registration.

In addition to your current domain, you'd register a new domain. Depending on how robust your current domain name is, you might be able to use the import/export feature available under the settings tab in WordPress. Once your new domain is registered and Wordpress is installed, you would export your current content and import it into your new Wordpress site.

So you don't lose your rankings, you'll want to do a 301 redirect from your old site to your new site. You might find a plugin to do this or hire someone to change the .htaccess file. This isn't my expertise, so I can't advise you on doing it yourself. I do know, it's only a line or two of code. It's a simple fix that shouldn't cost much. You could probably hire someone on fiver to do it for you with a 15 minute turnaround time from start to finish. They'll likely need FTP access. Here's a tutorial for accessing your FTP details: I'd also forward my old site to my new site. That way anyone visiting the old URL would be forwarded to the new URL. Also, if you forward your old domain to the new domain, google won't pick up duplicate content.

Hi, Renee, I thank you for taking time out to answer my question. It's good to know that I am able to export my content without losing my ranking.

Thanks again for FTP details - really useful information.

Best wishes to you too.

I believe so simply because you will be indexed and ranked with that domain URL.
However there is a way to change what the search engines sees.

You have to get your Domain Name Page/Post back into Edit Mode and change the Permalink.
Its not ideal but why not watch this short video and see what you think. Remember you must have a post/page that only contains your Domain Name URL.

Hello Again Euphemia
Just thought of something else.
You could always have a Sub-Domain and use links between the main domain you have and the sub one.
