I am writing a very long post with close to 12,000 words, and I have been editing for 3 weeks. Periodically my YouTube videos disappear from my text. I have set up 6 embedded videos to the post. I am familiar with how to embed a video using the text option, and I always save afterward. Does anyone have any idea what I am doing wrong?
Thank you!

Hi Colleen,

I'll ask these questions because you did not provide enough info:

1. Sure, you said you know how to embed YouTube videos but there are few ways to embed - a) add YouTube video url on post, or b) using the embed code given by YouTube - may I know which method you used?

2 Some lazy loading plugins can interfere with YouTube appearing on posts. Do you have one of these lazy loading plugins? If you have try turning it off, and then see if the videos reappear?

Let's try the above first, and see if it works. If not, then let's discuss further for more solution options?

Thank you for reaching out!, I copy the embedded code provided by YouTube, paste the code within the post via the text tab, switch back to visual, and then update. I do not have any lazy load plugins. I think that I might try adding all of the videos at the very last step before publishing. Fingers crossed.

You're welcome Colleen.

Yes, that is one way of doing it; i.e. add videos last.

Alternatively, try just adding the video url using the visual mode.

At the place where you want to add the video. Copy the url of the YouTube video. Go to YouTube, click on Share > copy the url > paste the copied url at the location of your post.

Just additional info - for me I use Gutenberg blocks. There is an Embed option where I copy the YouTube url and add to the field of the block. Then I simply click Embed, and it is done.

Here is explanation of the Gutenberg Embed block - https://gogutenberg.com/blocks/embeds/

So far no problem with all my websites with this way of embedding the video. If you go to my travel blog, you can see really long posts - 4,000 to 6,000 words where I add a lot of YouTube videos. You will see all of them embedded correctly.

Just to point you very quickly to this example (not promoting or against the rules here), you can check out this blog entry with all the videos - https://asiatravelgems.com/thailand-the-ultimate-guide/

That is not the only blog post. All the posts at the top level of each country has many videos. And all ok.

Keep us updated which solution works for you?

Hey Colleen,

Do you mean the videos are no longer available, or that they are not displaying properly?

If they are not displaying properly, then perhaps something has happened to the HTML code you used to embed them. If there is even ONE space where it should not be, then the video will not display correctly.

To find this out, you need to review the code and look to see if there is a boo-boo. If you can find the video again, perhaps it might be easier for you to simply copy and paste the embed code again.

However, if the video is no longer available... then you simply need to find a new video to use. Each person's YouTube channel is their own to do with as they wish (within the rules of YouTube, of course), so if they delete a video, then it is simply gone.

Hope you find this helpful.

No, the problem is that the code keeps disappearing. I have been editing for a week and updating many times. Do you think that could be the problem? Thank you for reaching out!

I have posts that are over 4,500 words with embedded YouTube videos and have updated that post numerous times with no disappearing content of any sort.

Are you copying and pasting EVERYTHING or simply adding to the end of your posts every time you update?

Are you using different devices and/or browsers each time you edit?

Are you editing inside your WordPress Dashboard?

Are you switching constantly between Block Editor and Classic Editor?

These are only some of the questions I can think to ask you at this point in time. All of these issues could cause you issues with your posts.

Thank you for your response! I have copied the embedded code and pasted in text version, and then proceeded to update the post every time. I never use different browsers and have been editing in Wordpress and have never tried block editor before (maybe I should). I should add that this problem has happened to me several times over the three years that I have been here. I think that I will add the videos when I am finished editing, and hopefully, that will be the end of it.

This is the first time I have EVER heard such a thing Colleen.

Perhaps if you reach out to Carson and explain in detail what you do and what you are experiencing. It would be super interesting to see what Carson could discover by inspecting your website.

It almost sounds like someone is hacking your website... odd experience indeed.

Would LOVE to know what Carson discovers if you should decide to ask him for his detective skills. If anyone could figure this out, Carson is the scripting guru.

Keep me posted should you discover the issue... please?

I think I might have figured it out...Grammarly! I feel that due to the length of the post, whenever I switch to the Grammarly edit mode, crazy things happen, and the video code disappears. Sorry for my unscientific analysis. I just wanted to keep you updated. Thanks again for all of your help!

That makes PERFECT sense!

Some members switch between the Block Editor and the Classic Editor causing similar issues.. so, why wouldn't Grammarly cause the same thing.

Thank YOU for letting me know your finding Colleen, much appreciated. Now I've learned something new today. :-)

is the code disappearing from your page or just the videos when you view it

The code is disappearing. Thank you, Phil.

that intimates that the code is not correct when embedded.
i have had bits of code disappear after adding them into the text area - changing back to visual and then going back to text
so i would store them in a text doc offline and add a marker in your text of what i will put where and then at the end add the videos - one at a time. or add them to the visual part and copy and paste into the text part later on...
i hope you find out what is going on - it can become really frustrating

Thank you, Phil! I was thinking of doing this....adding the videos last. Your explanation is exactly what I have been doing.
