Al good advice below. Yes, you can deactivate plug-ins when you are not using them. However, make sure you keep them updated as they can be used as a way into your site, so you need to keep them updated.

You can deactivate them at any time. However, as Kat said, there are some you won't want to deactivate, such as your All in One plugin and social media types, any that you have that might speed up your site, optimizing plugins such as Kraken etc., You just have to use common sense. I have a back up plugin that I only activate when I need to do a back up. Jim

I have some plugins that I deactivate unless I am using it, like my backup plugin ... I only activate it when I need to run a backup of my site.

Other plugins, like social media plugins, for example, need to be active because you want them to be working all the time.

Canvas does not have a plugin, therefore it is not applicable. Can you deactivate some plugins. Sure you can, however Jims answer is good
