Why On Earth Do I Have To Write This Blog Post? How Is This Going To Help Me?

Seriously! By spending the time writing this blog post, I am diverting time away that could have been spent creating content for one of my own sites! I have an extremely busy schedule, due to work, family, and other commitments. So whatever little bit of time I have available to me during the week, I need to maximize, for the biggest bang for the buck.

Wealthy Affiliate Training

Ok, so I'm currently on Lesson 10 of the current Wealthy Affiliate Training module that I am going through. My current task for this lesson is to create a blog post.

And so here I am. I am dutifully obliging. I'll try and aim to make this a one thousand word post. I'll blog a little bit about myself and my progress. Here is the 5-point bullet checklist that the training module recommends that I use, as the basis for the content of this blog post.

But before, I do, I just wanted to say:

Holy Cow!

I decided to peruse the blog posts of various people who have achieved top rankings within Wealthy Affiliate... by visiting http://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/rank.

And by reading the success stories of my fellow WA cohorts, I could feel a surge of inspiration, motivation, determination, and hope!

You all are making some serious money! You have achieved some impressive results! You are the case-studies that prove that it CAN be done!

Thank you to all of you!

You Have Made A Believer Out Of Me

So the point of blogging, therefore, is to give back to the community. It is through giving, sharing, helping others, that we not only help uplift others, but we end up bettering ourselves in the progress.

This is a universal truth, espoused by many religions and moral philosophies.

Your Success Is My Success

Now, I don't want to turn this blog post into a philosophical discourse and exposition on the merits of sharing, mentoring, teaching, and motivating others. There are a plethora of other aptly-written blog posts that expound on this, across WA.

But I do want to say that I am willing to do whatever it takes to contribute to the success of the WA community, knowing that in so doing, I will also be able to repeat the benefits in kind.

Without Further Adeiu

Ok, now for the crux of the blog post.

My Progress Thus Far

DISCLAIMER: I got started with affiliate marketing back in 2007. I even joined Wealthy Affiliate back in that time frame. I actually met with some modest success... At my peak, I was able to bring in several hundred dollars per month... At any given moment, I was hosting several different mini-niche websites.

That was back in the day, before the terms "Penguin" and "Panda" became part of every affiliate marketers lexicon. Back then, it was very easy to game the search engines.

But then the world came crashing down, when Google launched these initiatives.

And obviously I wasn't alone. Thousands of other affiliate marketers also lost everything literally overnight as well, as their search engine rankings dropped, or their websites even became de-indexed.

But while others may have decided to stick with it, and bounce back and rebound, I decided to take a hiatus.

This was circa 2011. I went back to just focusing on my day job - my "E Quadrant" income, as Rich Dad would say.

But then, sometime back in 2017, I decided that I needed to take better control over my financial destiny. One cannot become complacent in today's economy. One cannot be reliant on a single-source of income, especially if that income is not from a source that is in your own control.

So I decided to rejoin Wealthy Affiliate, earlier this year, after a 4 to 5 year hiatus.

It's Great To Be Back!

And it is great to be back! While a lot of this is not new to me, I am finding it extremely helpful to go through all the training again, just to re-acclimate myself to the world of affiliate marketing. I am finding this re-immersion to be extremely beneficial.

It will also be helpful to learn how affiliate marketing has evolved in the past few years, now that ranking in Google is no longer as easy as it once was.

My Progress Thus Far

I have created my first website, in the pet care niche. It has a handful of articles on it. It's not monetized yet or anything, but that's because I am following the WA training... and it has not yet covered monetization yet.

It's all coming back to me now - the knowledge of affiliate marketing. So, sometimes I feel like I can just bypass and skip all this training. But part of me wants to make sure that I go through each and every lesson, to make sure that I don't miss out anything.

My Biggest Challenge

I'd say that my biggest challenge is nothing more than inaction due to poor time management.

I work 40+ hours a week, plus I have to devote time to my family and its needs. Plus we are committed with various social activities on the weekends.

So this leaves me with very little precious time to actually devote toward affiliate marketing.

I once read an affiliate marketing ebook that said that if you want to be successful, you have to put in the time. You have to be willing to put in at least 2 hours a day. You have to write at least one blog post per day, create one YouTube video per day, one new email in your autoresponder series every day, create one more social media post or backlink every day.

So this is my single biggest challenge right now: Taking action. Producing content.

I need to figure out how to prioritize my day to ensure that my affiliate marketing endeavors can fit in.

Or shall I daresay that it should be the other way around:

My freetime should revolve around my affiliate marketing activities, and not the other way around.

My 90 Day Goal

Easier said than done, but my goal is to write 90 articles over the next 90 days.

Or should I simply aim for a more "fluid" goal, such as "spend 2 hours a day every day for 90 days"?

I have a feeling that if I truly, badly, sincerely, desperately want to succeed, then I would need go with option A, by any means necessary.

My 180 Day Goal

180 articles of content.

180 YouTube videos.

180 Social Media posts.

180 email list campaign posts.

1 ebook published, to promote my niche.

Uncertainty

Even though I have typed the above as my 180 day goal, there is a little voice, whispering a "yeah right", in my head.

And that voice in my head does seem to have a point: As much as I want this so badly, the last thing I want to do is to neglect my family by not spending time with them, not fraternize with my social circle, not engage in other hobbies and activities, not exercise, and not take care of the critical-but-mundane errands that are part of daily life.

And then there's sleep: I surmise that sacrificing sleep would only impair my productivity, rather than facilitate it. Yes, I would have more hours in a day if I were to sacrifice on sleep. But if I sacrifice on sleep, then my productivity, concentration, and ability to focus are compromised.

It's a veritable catch-22!

Time To Get Back To Work

Ok... Well, it's time to get back to work. This blog post is now well over one thousand words long. And I do need to move on to my next lesson / activity within the Wealthy Affiliate training.

I'll have to admit that this blog post may have started off on a cynical tone, but now as I penned my thoughts to paper (that's a proverbial expression - obviously nobody is "penning" thoughts" to paper. That's just an anachronism. Perhaps the expression ought to be "typed my thoughts onto the editor... but I digress).... I realize that writing this blog post was extremely beneficial and therapeutic for me... and I hope that it will garner some feedback from my fellow cohorts here at Wealthy Affiliate.

Good luck to you all. See you in the comments section, and in the next post!

Hey there Hyder
If your voice says- "Yeah right" maybe simplify those goals a little and if you achieve more than you set you will feel great.
Always believe in you and yes, by giving 2 hours each day, you can and will grow a great business. May take a little more time but hey time - what is time?
Go well and all the very best going into 2019
Vicki

The inertia of inaction is difficult to overcome but it can with amazing results.
