I have a submitted page not found (404) message. I get that it is probably a page I had and then deleted but it is still showing up in google. My question is, how do I know what page it is referring to? The message doesn't say what the page is/was?

Kyle thank you. I have a few on mine as well using the checker and was wondering how important they were.

I know in webmaster tools you can select that they are fixed and google will remove them

If you right click the link in Google's search results, you will be able to find the old URL.

This should not be of concern, when Google reindexes this page it will automatically remove it from the search results. I wouldn't be too concerned here Maryann. ;)

Use a broken link checker and when it shows up you simply click on the URL and that will show you the article/post/page.
A checker will also show you any other mistakes and all you have to do is click on the src (source) and if will show you where in the article/post/page it is.

Wow. I am running this on my site and didn't realize how many broken links I have, No wonder Google doesn't like me!

Don't worry too much about them but best to find and fix.
Tip - a lot of those broken links will be within your comments.
Perhaps the email address or the URL the person left in the comment no longer exists.

So as I said best to take a looksee and fix.
No need to delete the comment altogether just the email address and/or the URL.
Enjoy your day.

Hi Robert. Awesome tool.

But the three links they came up with are all within my content - (back links). I tested each one at the time and it went to the appropriate site. What does this mean and how do I fix it?

The server responses were Bad Host, Bad Host, 404

As I said to another person the error could be within a comment and bad host will probs be the URL or email addy they left with their comment.
