What the news didn't tell you about the "South Carolina Rain Event"!
As you may have heard, we received 6 days of heavy rain in South Carolina due to a unique set of slow moving weather pressure systems funneling continuous Rain Bands into us. I live 10 miles in land from the Ocean and Myrtle Beach in a remote swamp and wooded area. I love it, or I did until last week. I still love it here but wow, what a week. You see out of town, we are still only 15 feet above sea level and all of the rivers and drainage must pass thru us to get to the Ocean! Also most of us have septic systems that don't do well under water, (Drain fields can't drain) and that means no toilet or shower with out backing up into the house!!!!
When the rain passed and the rivers lowered, I when out to find a pump to lower the level in my septic tank and guess what? Everybody else had the same idea and beat me to it. So I took stock of my tools on hand and could only come up with my Shop-Vac! Well I used it (for the last time) to drain my septic tank, 80 times, carrying the buckets 50 feet away to dump them away from the drain field.
Well now the good news is : power is back on and I can use the toilet and shower. But I am a little worn out (at 68yrs old) and it will take me a week to recover.
