Site Speed

I'd like to just put some thoughts out there about site speed, maybe get a little conversation going or you all can tell me I am full of you know what.

The Ole Man

I would like to explain, am in my middle 60s, kind of slow to get up in the morning and it takes me awhile to get going. I drive an older 2008 Ford pick-up, kind of slow to start and I take it easy on the ole truck, like to keep it for a few more years as it is reliable and does not cost too much to run.

I live outside of Dallas, TX, about 40 miles. To go to Dallas I have to travel about a mile on a gravel road, 8 miles on two lanes and then I hit the Interstate for 30 miles to Dallas. My point being, it takes me a little longer to go to Dallas.

The Young Man

If you compare that to Bob the bachelor, a few miles down the road. He is in his 30s, drives a big ole Dodge 2500 and only a mile from the Interstate. It only stands to reasons, he will get up a lot faster than me, get down the road faster and to Dallas faster than me!

My Computer

When I get back home, I can fire up my 2008 Window 7 which is hooked up to an outdated Internet Service Provider, still running on regular telephone lines. I call them once a week to find out when we are going to get some new fiber optic, high speed lines, but you all know how that goes, since my wife and I are about the only ones out here!

Bob the Bachelor's Computer

Now, Bob has a brand new Apple Mac, kind of like the one Jay has in the background of his Webinars. He is also hooked up to a High Speed AT&T fiber optic cable. I could be wrong, but would Bob be able to get on the internet faster and surf the information highway faster than me?

Wealth Affiliate

I have confidence everyone at Wealthy Affiliate has done everything there is to do to make sure we have great site speed. There is no doubt about that!

Are not these other factors involved with the evaluation of our site speed? Maybe I don't understand it, but when Google checks my site speed, is it not going to be slower than someone else, say like bachelor Bob.

These are just some thoughts I had on my mind today and I would like to see if anyone else had any other thoughts or ideas?

Wayne, this sure resonates with me. Just remember the tale about the tortoise and the hare. You and I might be tortoises but we work thoroughly and steadily and we get there, very well, in the end.

We are still on land lines too. the high speed internet is coming but not in our out of the way neck of the woods so far (is that enough cliches!).

And I will miss my land line. Once everything is done electronically, power failures become a big problem.

Now you followed me ages ago and I have been very busy so am only now getting around to keeping in touch.

See you around.

Maybe you just need to get fired up a bit more and then you'll feel better than that 30 yo down the road. Watch out Dallas and Fort Worth too.Wayne is coming!
Have a great Sunday.

Wait, what? Are you wondering if your impeded access to Internet affects your WA site speed? Did I understand that correctly?

If that was the question, no. Unless you are the one actually hosting your site. You’re paying for WA to host your goods on their top-notch service.

In your analogy, WA is Dallas.

As you pointed out, some people get to Dallas faster than you do.

Like say, all the people living in South Korea where T3 cables were commonplace years ago, where apparently the fastest internet in the world lives. They get to Dallas before you do.

Or maybe all those Somali warlords who put out for fibre optic, despite being in a failing State. They will also be in Dallas before you.

Your site design is what may sometimes slow down the journey to Dallas for your friends. That’s reflected in site speed. And that’s in your power to improve.

If we keep flogging this trip-to-Dallas analogy, your uncompressed images and millions of plugins will be like loading your friends’ back seats with boulders. Or smearing shaving cream all over their windscreens.

If you want them to be there without hassles, be a friend and let them travel light. Or not, if that’s your plan.

BTW, I just love the way you write. :)

I think our personal site speed only counts when we are using it to work on our site or whatever. The only thing that would bog it down when others view our site would be the size of the images and such on our site. But I would think when a reader goes on our site, the page loading time it takes would be to their provider and what the site speed here delivers to our site.
How I made sense.
