What's in That Sandwich?
I was getting my lunch today in Hong Kong and visited one of my local lunch places and while waiting for my order I came across the origins of a sandwich and it fascinated me. Actually, I know I had read about this once before but this time I had the time to actually really read the information.
I wonder how many of you knew that a John Montagu invented the concept of the sandwich way back in 1792. Actually, he was the one who was first to invent the concept of using two pieces of bread to house other food types like vegetables or cheese or meats. This concept caught on quickly in the western world.
So, why are we not eating Montagus, you ask?
Well, excellent question and I see you are following right along, that's good!
John Montagu, at the time of this amazing contribution to gastronomy, was, in fact, a British statesman who actually succeeded his grandfather as the Earl of Sandwich in 1792, at the ripe old age of ten (10), that's correct, he was an Earl at the age of 10! Since he is credited with this invention we are now eating a sandwich instead of a Montagu!
Hungry yet?
OK, now I'm just being mean! sorry
So, the next time you are slaving away on your website or your affiliate marketing blogs or just answering your WA emails, take a moment and say thanks to John Montagu, 4th Earl of Sandwich! Salute, John!
Have a great day and a productive and prosperous week!

I believe a similar concept is the Cornish Pasties. With the development of tin and copper mining in Cornwall, the miners who worked long hours in terrible conditions, needed a nutritious yet portable meal to last them through the day.
So informative and entertaining! Great post Wayne, this was the "most delicious" info I received all week!

If I remember right, he invented the sandwich, because he didn't want to interrupt his game of bridge.
Anyhow, who cares, I'm hungry now. Going for a sandwich.
