Learning How To Be Realistic With Setting Goals

I just have to walk around the corner of my townhouse complex to see this view. I have been up on top of both of the peaks on the left hand side and another peak on the right that you can't see. That was many years ago but I still have the memories of those journeys and many others. It was a ten hour hike just to get to a place where we could pitch a tent. The next day it took another hour+ to get to the top. And then there was the trip DOWN AND DOWN AND DOWN, (thought it would never end).

I had only been part of a search and rescue group for about a few months and was still, not at all, I thought, in the best of shape to take on this sort of thing. However, a fellow search team member thought it would be a fun thing to do and I agreed so off we went. I can't tell you how many times I said to myself, "I don't think I can do this". We were climbing a steep root section of the trail and it was warm and we were sweating and well, you can probably guess what was happening to my legs.

The point of this is, that in spite of my "I can't" moments I DID make it to the top, (the next day), and my efforts were rewarded with a 360 degree view that is firmly etched into my memory bank.

My time here at WA hasn't been much different than that mountain I climbed 30+ years ago.

Today I left a comment on the "What are your Money Goals" blog. One of Kyle's links from "Build Your Own Traffic Producing Website". Someone else read it and thought that it would be good to share what I wrote with the rest of my network. That is what follows. I will add more.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have been at this for 3+ months and I think I posted some goals at the beginning of all this, but, I think a revision is necessary because I have realized that there is a very steep learning curve for people, like me, who have NEVER done anything like this before and also struggle with their inward thoughts about whether or not this is even possible.

That said, I AM NOT GIVING UP!!! So here goes.

In retrospect I think that my financial goals, (though certainly achievable by some), were a bit exaggerated for me. Yes, we all have hopes and dreams about what we would like the future, and sometimes the immediate future, to look like but, I/WE need to try and be realistic about those goals. These are some of the things I am learning here at WA.

I have started a website and am slowly building out the content. My monetary goals still remain but at the moment I think I would be happy to make an extra $2000-$3000 a month by the end of my first year here at WA and also start developing a site to promote WA.

I didn't intend to leave this much here but I'm just trying to be more realistic and I think that with a bit better focus I will be able to achieve this.

All the best to all of you.

This is the comment that I left, with a few added words.

Thinking back on that mountain experience I realize that in many respects, it really is no different than the mountain experience I'm on right here at WA. Hard work was involved in getting me to the top of that 5000 foot mountain, and even though I was not properly prepared to tackle it, I persevered AND I completed the journey AND I was rewarded.

This journey at WA is no different. For me this "Learning Curve", at WA, is just as steep as that section of mountain that I didn't think I could conquer, but, by putting one foot in front of the other and NOT GIVING UP I made it to the top.

I believe that the same can happen here. I will just keep putting one foot in front of the other, (one lesson at a time, one blog at a time, one more piece of content on another page), and eventually I will achieve my goals. I admit it won't be easy, a lot of you can attest to that, but.....I AM NOT GIVING UP!!! So here goes..............

If there is anyone out there who is struggling, (and don't lie to me, I know there is), PLEASE take some encouragement from this post. We ALL travel at different speeds, some of us faster and some of us slower. If we can recognize that in ourselves, that will be half the battle. When we are struggling we need to be patient and persevere with ourselves and not try to over-achieve. Just follow the path.............

All the best to you and happy trails. Love you all.

It's crazy that you hiked those 2 peaks!
But what's "crazier" is that you never give up.
Thanks for the encouragement Wayne!
Really appreciate this good read.

Just for your own info, it was the two peaks on the left-hand side. There is another one to the right, out of the picture, that I have climbed several times but the other two are way to difficult for me.

Thanks for reading and all the best.

I enjoyed reading this as I am a newbie to the internet it is real easy for those step ups to slide back that makes a slow clime but we just have to step up Thanks Wayne

I still feel very new even though it has been over 4 months since I joined and I am still learning about commitment to the project and to keep moving forward, Things I struggle with everyday. However, yesterday was productive and today will be as well. Just got to keep moving forward.

I can truly relate to what you are feeling at times. I have many times where I am looking at where someone else is and knows, and wonder if I can do it too. I am staying the course, and having to gain proper perspective as well. Like the cake recipe. If we follow the recipe, and not deviate, we will get there. Thanks Wayne, I needed that. Been having a really difficult time fully grasping the keyword process, especially with my having pretty much one day a week right now to really focus for a length of time. Just have to remember to be patient.

I struggle with the keyword thing as well. At the moment I'm getting about 2 days where I can TRY to get stuff done but next week I think that turns into three and my PLAN is to make the most of it. It's my PLAN to make the most of it. OOPS, I think I'm repeating myself.

All the best to you my friend. Keep in touch.

Like the story about the rabbit against the turttle... I am the turttle but I am always moving forward :) Best Regards, Jeff

This was a good read. Thank you, Wayne.

Thanks so much for sharing this inspiration :)

The ones I was looking at today are not as big but were still wonderfull was good to read your thoughts gives us all hope thank you.

That's the whole idea. I think I've learned something valuable, there is always hope as long as we are involved. People have been duped by others offering fast riches. WA offers us success in a different way. The financial part of it is a great thing but I think a better part is the success that one can achieve in personal growth. That is why I think WA is a place to somehow find both.

Am I making any sense?

All the best to you and your's.

Yes, I have found a lot of good advise here. and will use it.
