As Lawrence mentions, you have answered your question. However, I would be inclined to start with affiliate programs and gradually grow your business. If you do approach companies directly, make sure you are able to track your sales.

Most businesses would probably only be interested in working with you if you have a lot of traffic. And that won't happen for many months.
There are lots of affiliate programs that will take you on, even with low traffic. So I think you might want to start with affiliates programs that don't worry so much about how much traffic you get.
Once you are getting high traffic numbers, then you can contact individual businesses.
Just my two cent's worth.
I already have 3 different businesses interested in working with me. I will certainly continuously work to build websites once I finish the initial training.
I know that I proceed with a website like normal, but I just don't know how to proceed with the process of receiving a commission on sales. Is that some work that I need to do or do they set it up or do we set it up together? I really don't know. I don't need it right this instant, but some kind of direction will be helpful as I move forward.
