Hello,

Sometimes I see people asking how they can earn extra on their sites.
Regardless of the most classic way: Reviewing a product and place an affiliate link of the product on your site...

I think it might be a good idea that you all give your input, so we can create a (long) list of possibilities.

The option where I think of now is: Create a mini e-book (15 - 20 pages) and sell it for $0.99 on amazon or on your own site with a PayPal plugin...
With some good reviews (and of course) when it is a good e-book, I think you could be surprised how much you can earn...

And what are some other suggestions?
I think this can be interesting for everybody...

Grtz,
Bert

The mini e-book is a nice idea. I feel that one can offer any thing from their website even if it's something they have available on ebay. One can also put those items on their own site and link to their ebay page or just put up a paypal button directly on their own website.

Indeed, it is usable for multiple purposes..

I like the book idea also and may consider that. I have Google Adsense on my sites and am trying for an EBay link for each of my sites. Having some issues with that, but working on it.

I just have got my Ebay approval since this week, have waited on it for several weeks, even months...

But I do want to warn for too many ads... At a certain point, your site becomes an ad and people don't see the info anymore,

I agree with all of that. It's a fine line, but the purpose here is to reach our goals and I am open to possibilities. Good Luck!

See, I like the ebook idea. I could do a recipe book. I'm also thinking about actually starting a small business in my kitchen and selling from my site.

Once my site is generating traffic, I will be advertising myself as a website developer, which makes a lot of sense as my site is focused on website development tutorials and reviews of a variety of website related services.

I have actually been trying to sell websites for a long time, just never understood how to generate the traffic.

Use links to your sites from affiliates that are pertinent to your sites' purpose. Ie--sports, health, hunting, etc.

Hi and thanks for this. Can you really charge $0.99 for a 20 page ebook. I have always thought about doing this but thought it would have to be so much longer.
Reply

I have seen 5-10 page e-books selling for this price. You would be surprised.

Great - might look into this. I have always wanted to write a book and 20 page book would be a great start.

Thanks, appreciate this.

I have a friend that did a short book on herb, about 25 pages, for 1.99. I think that it would depend on the audience you could charge .50, just make sure you are making money not just breaking even.

You can deliver some great quality in 10 pages....
(Sometimes much better then 50 pages!)

Although this seems like a good idea in principle, it may not actually be that helpful to people. Why do I say this? Because if you give people too many options, they end up spoiled for choice. People don't like having too many different options to choose from because then they can't decide.

I have seen many articles that are titled things like "25 Way to Earn Money Online". Of course, an article like that never actually goes into any detail for any of the methods, and most of them are silly methods that don't earn anyone a lot of money anyway. But the main point is that nobody is going to do all 25 methods, and how do they decide which one method to choose?

Instead, it's better that solid research is done to identify the single best way to earn money online, or perhaps just a few really good ways that someone can choose from. I think you've already stated what that is - to write reviews for products and have affiliate links. This method alone earned Colton (Parre) over $4k in August and nearly $6 in November.

An ebook explaining how best to find a good niche, find products to review and then write great reviews, will help people far more. Give people one solid method and walk them through exactly how to do that. This way, they won't be paralysed with indecision about which of the many different methods to choose.

Although an ebook containing many different methods does sound good on the surface, and will probably get a lot of clicks to download, I don't think it will actually help people much. I suppose it depends on what your ultimate goal is - to write an ebook with a catchy title that lots of people will download, or to actually help people earn money online?

Thanks for you (again) great feedback... It is always nice to read your opinion...
But sometimes I wonder if people like Colton are the rule or more the exception.

I know some of the big earners here at WA earn their money by creating Wordpress websites... Which is great of course...
But for myself: I am looking for earnings where I don't trade hours for money... That's a very important aspect for me...
Reply
Marcus1978 Premium
Well, Colton says he no longer works as many hours as he used to. I think the idea is to put the work in early on and then reap the rewards later.

I said this in general... Does Colton create websites?
I meant that I am not so willing to offer services paid by the hour...

I am creating separate sites or mini-sites for monetizing my own products over and above the products found now the site I am using for affiliate sales. Many require a landing page, where your offer is presented to prospects...

You could host pages for your own products on your site, just make the pages not visible...No need for an external host unless you have that available (saves money likely if you host)...

You can promote your product through a review post, send them to a landing page (hosted on your site) after having them go through a squeeze page (in case they do not follow through you have a lead)...A squeeze page is where you capture their name and email information...

To entice people to provide their name and email you may want to provide a newsletter, a free report, an eBook, a video course, etc. This makes them feel good about providing their info...

They also are sent to the landing page of course after signing up to buy whatever they buy the product you are selling...I would also advise to provide lots of value when they do buy...Give them a couple of unannounced bonuses...This will make them feel as if they got a real deal, and keep them coming back!

If you have more sites from which you are selling products from, adding external links between them would be helpful as well...It gets you some SEO juice and can get more visibility for your online marketing program...Google can see what you are doing and credit you for it (assuming these are legitimate sites and related, hence the link of course)...

An example in my case is I have several affilate sites, a video marketing site, and a marketing site...I link between them as appropriate...

All are selling one thing or another...

Some more ideas: Depending on your niche and expertise, you may be able to offer online educational courses, giving away a module for free with a subscription, etc. So many ways to generate income!

Here is one important idea (it is not really novel by any means)...Truthfully I see too many sites that are not tapping into the opportunity to build a leads list with their effort. They have beautiful sites and articles that are well-researched, flow nicely...But they are not capturing their visitors...

That is one key way to generate income over time. This leads to opportunities to interact with your members, to build trust over time, and eventually sell to them...It is like planting seeds in the Spring, as time goes on, these seeds grow and mature and bear fruit. This is an excellent way to generate more income from your effort!

Cheers!
Dave : )

The usage of a Funnel is not that well known here at WA, I think...
And I have now a mailing list of 270 people... It starts to become something where you can do something with...

Hey Bert ... This list is not a new idea. Ian already have this list posted. What I have learned in my short time here is dat the product will grow into you ... Hence like Deb and Kyle says just create your content and what Steve says as user experience. Ian did it and many seniors did it that way as well. Don't chase after it ... We will most probably burn out. Grab the opportunity as they come dude. That is my novice take ... Ciao Bert. Apeng.

No offence but my personal opinion is that you will ultimately struggle to earn much in the way of extra (if any) notable amounts of money if you retain that mindset. I know it's been said a million times before but it's certainly the philosophy I adhere too, and that is- you don't have to do 'extra' if you have 1: The right attitude 2: A solid foundation built 3: You are continuing to create good, helpful content for your readers. FULL STOP. For me it's that simple. It's about creating a network of loyal followers who see worth in what you have to offer. They're called "BUYERS"....

Yeah, but why limit yourself to one website or one possible stream of income when you can branch out and generate income in a number of different ways. It's safer, too, than placing all your hope and future on the one thing. Especially on the internet, where things can literally change overnight and kill your sales. I know that through publishing and selling eBooks for years. the retailers change their algorithms which can kill sales dead instantly. I see it happen constantly. Multiple income streams is much more secure if you want any sort of financial security when doing business in the online world. Trust me on that. I know first-hand how quickly things can change.

You talk to any successful entrepreneur and almost all of them will have multiple streams of income.

Thanks for your opinion Debbie, but the question was hypothetical: More to brainstorm about possibilities, cause not everybody chose the blog way of approaching their website...
But in case you create a site like you describe, I am convinced that what you say is correct...
Reply
AngelsBird Premium
I agree with you, that multiple streams give more security and can also be extra helpful for the visitor. I think at a service you offer regarding your niche or an e-book that you sell with some great tips...

Also the banners you work with can make a big difference at the end of the month....

I've seen quite a few ad-type entries in places such as Craigslist and local papers using leadins to a landing page, etc. Naturally, many are tasteless/spam.....some are quality and interesting. Proper use of Reddit is good as well....

Another method would be to sell advertising. For example, use a banner rotator and charge for peoples banners to be advertised on your site. I guess this is similar to ad sense, only it gives you complete control over it, plus you make all the commission.

I've seen a lot of sites with a message in the side bar saying "Your Ad Here" so it must be a viable method.

Yes, you can use plugins like this https://wordpress.org/plugins/banner-ads-rotator/
