Go to the dashboard. Click on all posts, choose the posts and click on quick edit. Click your category and get rid of uncategorized.

I only discovered this yesterday while I was tinkering. While you're there, make sure the "slug" box contains the title of your post with dashes between the words. If you have that you will be able to put links in your article that take the reader to another of your posts.

Yes but I never used the slug box. Is there any hope on that? hope I'm not late.

never too late. Go to quick edit and remember dashes between the words. Same words as in the title.

That is if you know what to do.

I ended up editing uncategorized to general. It seems the default cannot be deleted. This way if I forget to update the category on a new post, general still looks more professional than uncategorized.

Once you have a new category that can be set to default I believe it can but yes changing the name works too. Just remember to change the category slug as well to maintain consistency and for SEO properties.

Uncategorized is the default category for Wordpress. Under post in your wordpress back office you will find categories there and can add them, then select the category you desire when posting your new post through site content. Once you have categories set You can either delete this default category or save it for when a post just doesn't seem to fit into a catgeory you have created. Cantegories just help organizing the information on your site.

It just means you haven't added them to a category yet. I read somewhere on Google that you shouldn't leave anything uncategorized because it doesn't look professional to visitors. I had mine uncategorized for weeks before I found that out and then I didn't know what to categorize them as. I actually don't remember what I ended up categorizing them under but it is fixed.

I've visited a lot of sites that had uncategorized stuff and I never thought anything of it.

Anyway, I hope this helps.

All the best
Melissa

Yeah not so sure on the SEO claim as even some of the big news outlets have a category for Miscellaneous, Uncategorized, or General. All of these mean the same thing in terms of grouping, the topics just fit outside the normal post on the blog.

Ya, that's why when I read that it was a "faux pas" I was a little confused because I've seen some pretty big sites with the same. I figured I'd change it anyway just to save my butt 🤷

Very good explanation. I just fixed it.
But I did not understand the explanation on "tag".
Sorry for asking another hug.
