Banners are normal things nowadays, I would not worry. It should be somehow relevant for the site in general.

I've seen it at many more websites. I guess it's fine. But (personally) just make sure it does not look like an ad but show it is an affiliate link. Or am I being too ethical right now?

Maybe there is no distinction but for me, you will use an affiliate link where you are describing and will be personally promoting the product. You stand to gain from them buying the product. It loses its power when it is just placed as an ad without context. But that is just my opinion

I've learned the same as jvhouten stated ... and I detailed in my blog: NONE of my images with affiliate links have EVER earned money for me. So "D" you've got a decision to make, right? :-))
