My website is about pet products but if I want to say add a link somewhere about "Turbo Tax"(example only), or "dental implants", that are really not related to my niche but that I think my audience may be interested in, can I do this, or do I have to completely stick to everything pertaining to my niche?

You are probably seeing some large sites do this. But as a consumer it is very irritating because website visitors come for a specific reason and they don't like seeing ads much less ads that don't relate to the niche.
If your niche site is designed to help people with information and solve problems, your site visitors will be very grateful.

I guess if my site was centered around pet products, then there would be no reason to promote Wealthy Affiliate with either text links or banner links. I think that is what you are saying.
That said, I have a few hundred followers and I make a point to revisit them often to check on their niche websites, A very large percentage of them are promoting Wealthy Affiliate, which has little or nothing to do with their niches.
So, in that sense, I guess placing unrelated ads have nothing to do with authority. I shouldn't have used that word.
Now, what are your thoughts on so many WA members placing WA text and banner links on websites that may have to do with teaching children, nursing careers, etc.? Why would they do this?

You CAN do this, but why would you want to? The people are there to get answers about your niche. Why not put up links that are in line with your niche? Our main reason to write a blog is to help people interested in your niche - not miscellaneous unrelated programs.

Respecting your opinion, if I have a camping website, there is no reason to promote Wealthy Affiliate. Is that what you are saying?
