My 5 Worst Mistakes using Pinterest

I have shared with you that I finally made a shift inside my head, that Pinterest is a great tool for promoting my blogs and products.

But as I was thinking, I realized that my second obstacle was a lack of knowledge. Here are my 5 worst mistakes, that I was making because of lack of knowledge - and here is where WA training has finally helped me to overcome this obstacle.

Mistake 1: Using Wrong Pin Format

I will be honest, I first thought you just take a photo and pin it. Nope, wrong!

First time I noticed this was when I applied to Finish it! contest. I had to photograph my finished product and pin it to a Pinterest board. My product - of course - didn't stand out, because I used totally wrong size of the photograph & I didn't use a VERTICAL image - end result was that my image looked very squashed among other pins. My product didn't stand out - I didn't get many votes... Logical result :(

For 2021 Pinterest recommends using 1000 x 1500 pixels is optimal – or any 2:3 aspect ratio.

Pinterest is also adding a new feature. Video pins are becoming very popular among Pinterest community, so I will be definitely exploring these options. I saw that Canva offers some very nice templates that have animated elements added (I use a free version of Canva and they have large selections of free templates). I will definitely be adding them to my boards.

Mistake 2: No Pin Description

You need to write a lucrative description - what is waiting for your readers on the other side. This definitely helps to have a better click-on rate.

I have found, why no pin description is a problem, by accident - I use Tailwind for scheduling - I cannot repin pins from users that have no description. I have to tell you that I couldn't repin some very nice pins because of that mistake the other user made.

Mistake 3: Not adding 3-4 Tags

I didn't know Pinterest also wants a few tags? I use the same/similar tags that use when I research the content!

Of course, when you start to google this topic, people have written tons on it. If you want to learn more and get a more complex answer, please, use Google for that.

Mistake 4: Boards - No Photo and Description

To be honest, I didn't even know that boards that have a cover photo and added description are more likely to get following. After I have started to use Tailwind, and I had to add plenty of boards descriptions - to improve my rating - then it hit me.

People prefer boards, that have descriptions, it is like a label on a product - you can read what will be inside ;)

Mistake 5: Inconsistent Pinning

I usually pinned when I felt like going to Pinterest and repin. Well, I want to run a business and that requires a Business Approach.

If I do not have tome to Pin consistently, then I need an automatic scheduler to do that for me! I choose Tailwind. I will see in one year if it is worth the money or not.

Be smarter than me - avoid these mistakes

I have learned these facts the hard way. But, we all have different paths to acquire our knowledge. Please, be smart, don't do these mistakes!

Learning how to use Pinterest efficiently will take you a little bit more time, but in the end, it is definitely worth it :)

I hope that this has helped anyone.

Dear WA, thank you for providing me with new knowledge, so I can make my business grow in the years to come!

I'll have to take some time and try to figure the ins and outs of Pinterest. I left it alone, because it require lots of work and time to get started. But I think there are some good advantages using Pinterest if I follow the core concept of it. Thanks for sharing these mistakes. All the best!

I read Pinterest is one of the best tools for bloggers so I am keen on learning it :)

Thank you Visna. I plan to start using Pinterest soon. This insight will be very helpful.

I have read your take on Pinterest :) You gave me an awesome piece of advice - make titles & descriptions of your boards lucrative for readers. I have some work to do ;) Mine are currently very boring :P

I have no doubt that your creative juices are going to make your titles all that more exciting. Wishing you well

To be honest, I did sign to Pinterest but till now I know what it's for...
Great post, going to study about Pinterest more.
Thanks for the info

Best wishes

There is a lot of awesome pieces of training already here at WA. I highly recommend reading through them, because knowledge is very well concentrated and you can also ask questions to people, that wrote the training. They usually reply very fast :)
