A new controversial book “How to Fail at Almost Everything and Still Win Big” by Scott Adams provides a new way to look at setting goals.

"If you do something every day, it’s a system. If you're waiting to achieve it someday in the future, it's a goal."

After reading excerpts of the book by Scott Adams, I was a little perplexed, a little confused and a lot mad.

After joining Wealthy Affiliates, goal setting was my #1 priority. I set financial goals which had to be followed up with things to do everyday to achieve it. of course, my laziness prevented some execution. But Scott Adams proclaims:

“Goal oriented people exist in a state of continuous pre-success failure at best, and permanent failure at worst if things never work out.

The truth is some days, I spent time cooking banana bread, chilling with Netflix. Reading the book made me feel guilty about being lazy. But the lazy heart will find excuses....

The Human Brain is Hardwired for Laziness

A report released on September 18, 2018, by University of British Columbia explains:

Society has encouraged people to be more physically active, yet we are becoming less active. This new study offers an explanation: Our brains may be innately attracted to sedentary behavior. Electroencephalograms showed that test subjects had to summon extra brain resources when trying to avoid physical inactivity.

A sigh of relief from my feelings of guilt for not working out every day or creating daily content for my blog.

I am always looking for a faster more efficient way to do things. The report gave me an excuse but the book by Scott Adams confirmed that creating systems for my life and my online business would take me to the place I wanted to be.

I could feel good about being lazy because what I was not doing manually, I could use the energy to follow a system that would help me get to the promised land.

The report goes on to explain:

If getting to the gym seems like a struggle, a University of British Columbia researcher wants you to know this: the struggle is real, and it's happening inside your brain. Resource: Science Daily https://www.sciencedaily.com/r...

ATOMIC HABITS

The reason that most New Year’s resolutions for health and wealth are abandoned by January. or we fail to meet the goals we set both personally and professionally are left on the New Year’s Dance Floor is revealed in the book by James Clear, author of “Atomic Habits”

“Goals are good for setting a direction, but systems are best for making progress.”

The New York Initiative Monday Refresh

Monday Campaigns, a nonprofit initiative based in New York City that’s dedicated to starting the week reviewing our goals, resetting our motivation, just starting over. This initiative points out the beginning of the week as the optimal time to promote healthy behaviors”. My new diet always starts on Monday?

Many New Year’s resolutions involve changing habits, states Dr. Lama Bazzi, a psychiatrist in private practice in New York City. in a FOX News Article, she states “many people don’t “account for the fact that a habit cannot be eradicated but must be replaced with another habit.”

She added, “Otherwise, you remove a source of satisfaction from your life without replacing it with a more productive behavior.

Solution: Create “Systems” to Achieve “Goals.”

The solution from the experts suggests that for personal improvement. create a system that becomes a habit. An example is deciding to lose 20 lbs. is a goal. Following a healthy eating plan like Weight Watchers or Jenny Craig is a system. Develop your own system by creating a shopping list filled with healthy food, cooking instructions, meal plans.

In your professional life: Earning 10K per month is a goal. Setting up an automated lead generation system to capture leads or create automated system that runs your business.

A system is “something you do on a regular basis that increases your odds of success overall.

The best way to achieve success in both our personal and business endeavors is to develop systems which become habits. Habits are hardwired into our brain.
