The Secret Code of Success

Of our five most dominant senses, smell is often neglected.

Are you sitting at a terminal writing comments or content for your website?

You are using your sight, touch and probably, your taste.

Many people write while listening to music or even have a TV on in the background.

Yet.

The part of our brains that registers smell is connected to the Amygdala and Hippocampus.

That is the main area of your brain that deals with our memories and feelings.

This means that smells can be a powerful trigger of memories.

And?

I know I work hard and long at the PC so it could help to have something smelly which triggers good memories, close to the PC.

This might be flowers or a bowl of potpourri, perhaps the odd steaming cup of coffee.

We have a rosemary bush in the garden, a sprig of which gives a subtle sweet aroma for hours.

Give your memory and feelings a a gentle nudge and make them happy.

Thank you for the post!!

Thanks for reading Izzy.
It's like a direct line to the brain.

The olfactory senses are the most powerful triggers to memory, and most keenly detected by a pleasant hummingbird!

Well spotted Kaju.
I guess that is why many women wear perfume.

This brings to mind the smells that , when I do run across them, remind me of my childhood half a century ago. (Wow, I'm getting old!)
Honey Suckle, airport jet fuel, other smells that can take you back in time.
Great post here!

Thanks - Happy Friday!

Thanks Mark.
Some mixed up perfumes there.
I like the smell of crushed vanilla.

Thank you for reading Pauline.

Thanks for sharing this nice post! I LOVE the smell of fresh cut grass, so in the summer my windows are always open to let that smell in :)

Thanks Terry. Now there's a good idea.

Thanks.

Thank you for reading John

Thank you for your nice post. I like your point of view.

Thanks amir.

Thanks Peony, aromatherapy is a powerful aid. Stores like Costco use it to get you to shop more than you may have planned.

Thanks Harvey - spot on.
The supermarkets pipe smells of fresh bread and roast chicken to the main entrance and then place the items right at the back of the shop, so we have to walk right through the shop to get at them.

What a fantastic idea! It's true that smells affect our feelings and moods so it would make sense to promote a good smell while working. Thanks for the tip!

Thank you Angela.
Had the knowledge in the back of my memory and only recently thought of applying it.
