Birds Change
Birds Change
When I was young the world was full of tiny sparrows. They have become rare in the UK.
Most of the visible birds are now crows and magpies.
The crows have become adept at emptying rubbish bins and breaking into discarded burger boxes. They peck them open and head skywards with their stolen bounty, leaving a mess on the ground.

I grew up with red Robins and have not seen one in years. Although I've moved from the area, I miss seeing them. Debbie
Thanks Debbie. I think I read that Robbins are very territorial and will chase off any "invading" other Robbins. We have a pair that nest in a neighbour's bush and they really are quite cute.
That is so sad! I love wild birds.
We have European Starlings here now that are an invasive species.
Yes, but not here. We don't have them in such great numbers to do that yet...I suppose the population will continue to grow though. I was so excited when I first saw them since I have lived here all my life and never seen them before. Unfortunately, they are quite bad for the local native birds.
That they do, I have even seen them in the dumpsters. But in Kansas we have plenty of sparrows.
Thanks Lori. I have watched crows rummage in a rubbish bin, take out a burger box, throw it onto the ground, fly down and toss and peck it until it burst open. A peek inside and any treasure found would be grabbed and the happy crow fly off to the trees to eat it. Quite amazing really.
They are like the seagulls in south Texas, they would hang around all the fast food places waiting for free food. And the ocean was only a hop an skip away.
