How to cut your workload in half with site comments, but also how to use it right.

Hi guys, so unless you're super new here or have been living in the outskirts of WA, we have this amazing program called Sitecomments:

https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/kyle/blog/sitecomm...

Now I was hesitant to use that feature when it was first released, but went full force with it earlier this year and now, use it daily.

If you don't already know, comments rock. like REALLY rock, towards SEO and here's one example:

https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/coltonjames/blog/5...

Considering the above article by Colton, imagine how much less you have to work when you add this feature into your site and the fact that this helps it as well.

Now that's on the workload part. The next part is bitter sweet for me because while I will tell you how to maximize this feature, I will also have to note as to why many comments posted on this program can get disapproved.

In my particular case, I have unfortunately had to disapprove a ton of comments from people who I know were very open and willing to give them to me, but unfortunately, sometimes the best intentions may not lead to the best results, and I will explain why, specifically they were disapproved, as well as explain which ones get the highest approval rating.

Now i say this with no intent to hurt anyone who has had theirs disapproved by me, but my business does come first here and if what is given to my site is not up to the standards I have set (and will explain), I won't go through with it.

I personally have a 100% approval rating and the reason why is because I follow some very clear, easy instructions. When you are commenting, here are my 3 tips:

1) Talk about the topic of the post specifically.
2) Ask questions about the post.
3) Relate to the post by sharing a similar experience.

Now while a lot of people do this, there are those who don't and while I personally make exceptions to the approvals I make, if it falls into the next categories i will explain, i will usually not approve them:

1) Comment is extremely general/vague.

Ex: If I write about how I got scammed by a specific product and you tell me that scams are everywhere, you're not really adding much else.

Solution: Now if you've heard of the product or have a story like the one I had, BAM, we can get a wonderful dialogue going.

2) Comment is positive, but also general.

"Nice site, keep up the good work, I like what you've done here and there, and I'm sure you'll help a lot of people with this advice".

I write a post on taking care of a turtle. The comment is:

"Wow nice, I love animals".

My reacton: "Meh". These aren't really bad comments by any means, but if I am writing about how to solve a problem and I get this type of response, it's not really helping me much. Plus think about other people who visit the site. Do they learn anything from these comments? No.

Solution: Be positive, but add an experience with it so it helps the author and other readers.

3) Comment goes into explaining what they think I should change on my site, going as deep as font, color, where to put banners, ect...

Guys, this isn't a feedback and I've said this to everyone who has said this to me in my disapproval message. I understand you have your own positions about how you think things should look and feel, but I've been in this long enough to know how it works.

What you believe needs to be on the site can be totally subjective.

Solution: Stick to the 3 tips and if the site is really is really in need of a makeover, let the person know outside sitecomments and note that specific feedback for websites goes in this section, not in sitecomments:

https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/getting-started/pl...

4) Grammar and spelling.

It doesn't happen a lot, but when it does and I have to start correcting things and figuring out what you mean, it gets to a point where I won't bother with it because by then I've changed so much of the original comment that it looks different and by that time it isn't worth it.

Solution: Grammar!

5) Double posting.

You don't need to post on sitecomments AND on my site guys, you're going to create duplicates as a result and you're just doing more than needed. Just post on sitecomments and that's enough.

6) You don't actually read the blog post...

I have had a bunch of times where people literally commented in a way that gave me the impression they only read the title and assumed the rest of the content so I had to disapprove it because it totally didn't make sense.

7) You write comments on the site just to get credits.

This type of mindset leads to making the above 6 mistakes and and not really doing the 3 things I recommended. Please understand that if you give comments that are not really doing much, you're only making it more likely that yours will get disapproved.

Take the time to give a good comment to the blogger. Trust me, it'll help them and your rating as well.

Believe me, i want all of you who participate in this to get your full credit and then use it to make your site's successful, so my goal is to better the whole process.

While my 3 rules aren't the ONLY thing you should do, and I would love to hear what kinds of comments you make, understand that a comment is basically an extension of the content.

It has to flow with it, meaning, you agree or disagree, but there is a dialogue going on. Dialogue is HUGE for websites.

Thank you, I had a couple of review/comments disapproved and had no idea why, now I know.

That's a great post. I must also admit, I've given comments that were pretty vague. I think the best thing to do if you dont understand the post or dont connect with the content, is to move on to the next.

Many thanks Vitaliy, who you say makes a lot of sense and I agree with you :)

I try to set at least one day a week where I can spend an hour or two on comments and reviews. Sometimes it seems to take forever to earn the two credits needed for one comment or review in return. Then, if the one I receive is unuseable, I get such a burned out feeling, I spend the entire next day watching movies on Netflix, just to reboot my own internal drive.

I'm sure you can relate. In the meantime, I believe that despite those little setbacks, it eventually leads to a robust and successful site. I'm still in the robust stage.

Gettin' there.

Good post. I have been on both sides of this. My first comment was poor because I didn't use brain, just like you said. It's embarrassing to think about it now. And yes, some comments I've got have been awful, with no thought given. You win some, you lose some.

I am in agreement with you. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for sharing some important information.

Great advice thanks.

My sentiments exactly.

Getting a comment that I can approve for my site is quite rare.

You and me are of similar mind on this. I need a good comment partner who truly understands how to take advantage of it. I'll stop by your site this weekend and drop some great comments for ya.
