What Makes You A Great Manager

Bad For Business

I have been in the dental field for almost 10 years now, and I have had only 3 bosses/managers that I can say were the "World's Best Boss."

I have no experience in being a boss or managing a business but I do know that not treating your employees with respect and appreciation is bad for business.

Running and managing a good business starts by managing your staff, those who work with you indirectly and those who are bringing you the money (Customers) with respect and appreciation.

A great manager doesn't show favoritism and treats one employee better than the other or is more friendly with one than the other.

A Great Manager

A great manager doesn't allow competition between their employees but treats each employee equally and with the same amount of respect.

A great manager doesn't think that because he or she has a higher position they have the right to treat you and talk to you any they want.

To me a great manager understands that if one employee is better at one thing than his or her other employee doesn't make that employee any less competent.

When we come to the understanding that no one is perfect and no one does anything perfect we'll appreciate more the talents that each person has.

If you are better at one thing than the next person that doesn't mean you're smarter than he or she. They might be better than you at something else, that doesn't make you any more dumb or less of a person.

We need to stop treating others like they're less than and with more respect, no matter who or what position you have.

Just because you have a higher position or you have a fancy 2 or 3 letter abbreviation behind your name give you the right to treat and talk to another grown person with disrespect or intimidation.

At the end of the day those "below you", your employees are the ones helping you run your business.

You don't gain success by intimidating and stepping on those who help you run your business, what ever it might be.

You gain success by treating those who help you run your business or business you're managing with appreciation and respect.

You get more out of an employee who you treat with respect and appreciation, than you would if you treated them bad, with disrespect and intimidation.

You want to give your employees a comfortable and safe environment to work in both physically and mentally.

When you have employees that are happy and comfortable at their place of work they'll work hard and provide the best service for your customers possible.

Happy employees makes better service, which makes happier customers, which brings more customers, which brings more success and money to your business.

These are my thoughts at least. I really believe in this philosophy.

Life is not about treating others less than and always competeting with one another.

Life is about creation and demonstrating to others that they too are worthy of attaining their goals and dreams. That they are worthy of being treated with respect, no matter who or what position you have in life.

Sometimes I think maybe I should get into consulting businesses or something. Ha! with that said...

Hope everyone is having a blessed day

Hi Virginia great post and such sound advise. Yes we go through that on a daily basis because people don't understand we're different. I have been through similar situations.

So thank you for putting that out there. maybe someone who is guilty of that can change the way they treat people.
