when I went to check site health I found all of the sample pages that came with a theme that I deleted, they were still listed as pages?

Virginia

I asked the community for help, maybe they can come up with a better answer.

Did you update your word press page after deleting these pages?

yes I have, I didn't realize that the pages were showing until I happened to be in that area of my site manager. I had deleted the temporary pages the same day that I installed the theme, which by the way I have since deleted that particular theme. I found a better theme to suit my needs.
It is definitely a curiosity to me.

yes and many times after

did you click update after deleting?

Hi Virginia -

If you have unauthorized new users registering on your website, a simple change in your setting will solve this problem (do this ASAP):

Go into your Wordpress dashboard, then go to:

Users --> All Users

You can delete those registrations there.

Then go to Settings --> General

And where it says "New User Default Role" make sure that says subscriber.

You can also uncheck "Anyone can register".

You can also view this training: -Laurie

Thank you Laurie! I have done exactly that.
Virginia

Its a part of Amazon that enables someone to get a virtual copy of your sites content.

Ok but what do I do with it? should I delete the user? and change my password?
I don't have amazon on this site.
Virginia

Yes you should delete it and make sure you have the box unticked for Trackbacks.

There's also a plugin for Malware you can use.

Done! thank you Robert!
What plugin for Malware are you recommending?

Sorry Louise I had it then deleted it after it had done its job as I didn't want too many active plugins.
With hindsight I should have just deactivated it instead of deleting it.
It was Loes who put me on to it.
I'm sure she will have the link.

thank you

No probs and enjoy your Thursday.

If its a SiteRubix then yes you can simply delete it and start another one.

However if there are articles you have published on it then its a good idea to save a copy of the site.

If you don't want to delete it then you can stop the search engines from crawling it.

If you do want to delete it altogether then click on Websites then Site Manger.
Find you site and over on the far right you will see the word Details.
Click on it and scroll down the page and you should see the words - Delete This Site.

Click on that and you are done.

Thank you Robert, if I save a copy of the site, what can I do with the copy? Can I use the articles that I posted on the original site on the new site/
Virginia

Yes you can.
What you need to do is download a copy of your site.
Best to use a program such as Updraft -

https://wordpress.org/plugins/updraftplus/

Its a plugin and you simply create a backup of your site and then download that copy to your desktop.

Then you create your new site and install Updraft to it and then upload that copy to your new site.

You can also Export a copy of your site.

In your WP Dashboard click on Tools then Export.

Save the copy to your Desktop.

Create your new site.
Remember to have the same theme in your new site (you can always change it later)

In its WP Dashboard then Tools and choose Import and import that copy you saved on your Desktop.

See what it looks like.

Oh I do have updraftplus! However I already started the new site, maybe I can just upload the individual articles that I think will be best for the new site? I don't want all of them, or the styles.
Virginia

Ok that would be best if you don't mind the work.

Remember you have to delete the old site altogether from your Google Console and your Google Analytics or you will have duplicate content.
Until you have transferred content from one to the other best to discourage the search engines from crawling the site.
See the image of my site to see what I mean.
I'm off for the night now.

Hi Virginia

You are doing brilliantly because you are posting regularly.

Posting once a week will just mean that you will build content on your website slower but you are still building content.

As mentioned below consistency is the key.

Have a great weekend

Hi Jennifer,
It is always nice to hear from you!
Thank you for your advice I feel a bit relieved, as I think I was working myself up about not being able to get in 2-3 posts a week.

Hope all is going well for you,
Virginia

You are most welcome

Remember it is your business and you are not in a race.

Here's to making it happen here at Wealthy Affiliate

Have a great week

Jennifer

You're fine, things will just take longer to develop. Consistency is the key.

Thank you for your help!
Virginia

You're welcome

When I first started out, I probably only did 1 post a week for several months. It was a slower process, but my website was fine and eventually started ranking in search engines. I would try to stick to the once per week if possible. Being consistent is what is important.

Thanks Maria,
I was driving myself crazy thinking about this.
