I am still new to video, and I really want to get Into this. I made my first video a few months ago, It did decent for my first video. When I was checking out a keyword for my website tonight, I came across It, and It was sitting on the 2nd spot on the first page for that keyword. Video Is definitely the way to go and I am going to be making more here soon. What experiences have you guys had with video and what were your results? I would love to hear your comments on how you think video Is taking over!!

I posted a discussion here about the video stats for You Tube (wow) - the one stat that got my attention is:

iMediaConnection predicts that 90% of all web traffic will be reached through video by 2014.

I also agree that text should also be part of your marketing strategy - I have done many videos that will get ranked on page 1 within days - then my text will come onto page 1 not long after. It's a beautiful thing.

However, proper keyword research is needed for this to happen - if you're trying to rank for very competitive words your struggle for that front page ranking will be very hard using video and/or text.

Great advice Leo, keyword research definitely still applies if you are going to be creating videos. There is a tool within Jaaxy as well that you can use to see where the top video engines are ranked for particular search terms in Google.

For example, if there is no Youtube video on the 1st page in Google under a moderate keyword (in terms of competition), chances are you will be able to get a good ranking with solid video.

I don't recommend using all video as many people still enjoy the written word (I prefer to read versus watch and I know many others that are the same), but brilliant campaigns can be delivered on the base of video.

PS. 90% of all traffic, that is a crazy stat!

More and more people are doing video but a lot of them are of very poor quality. I have lost some of my hearing and so I'm really sensitive to how they are recorded and I really dislike it when it sounds as if people recorded them in their garage (which produces a strange echo)

Oh yes I definitely agree with you about low quality video. If It's not high quality and produced correctly then I wouldn't use It or endorse it in any way. I think It's good to mix it up some and have both. Some people prefer video to text, others prefer text over video. I guess It just depends on what people prefer.

A nice mix of video and text is the way to go...I would not favour just doing one or the other. Text gets indexed by Google in it's totality whereas videos are often times easier and more time efficient to create.

In terms of editing, text is much easier if something does change, whereas if you need to edit a video you likely have to re-record the entire video.

Yes I feel It should be mixed up some, by doing video and text I think it doubles your chances of getting ranked for the keywords you are trying to get ranked for. Also text would be easier to update than a video.

It absolute does. If you get your content ranked (on your website) under a particular keyword, you can often times get ranked with a video on Youtube or Vimeo by targeting that exact same keyword. This is a good way to hold several rankings within a single page in Google.
