Does anyone know how to add a link to a button when someone subscribes to receive an e-book

I have been thinking about this since 2 am. With a pop up you will need to approach this with your auto responder. When they sign up an email can be set up to go out. The url for the ebook will need to be in the email. But it has to be set up to go out after they confirm their subscription. I am not sure if you can do this with a free email auto responder.

Another way to do this would be to use an email capture form on a page. Place a call to action button on your posts, offering a free e-book, link it to a page with the email capture. Then automatically direct that page to another page that links to the e-book.

The problem with this is, they have not confirmed their email but they got the book. But you can inform them on the email capture page that as soon as they confirm their email address you will send the e-book. This will have to be done individually with each address you receive.

So we are back to square one. Best to do this with an email auto responder. It saves time.

Hi Laura
I changed providers for my email and I am now able to add the download link to the subscribe button so as they subscribe, they will now receive the ebook
Thank you for your help as always my friend
Vicki

I am so so happy. Love you girl!

Laura

Same- Yay. love you too girl and thank you

Hi Vick

I hate popuPS you ever go to a news site during your research?
there over encumbered with ads and popups your trying to read an article and popup, damn things.

I would recommend mailchimp autoresponder for your popup they offer a free account up to a 1k subscribers
You can get a landing page for your book you'll also need to upload it to mailchimp whether your charging for it or it's free

They make list building simple
Charles

Thanks Charles- Will go take a look, thank you
Vicki

Hey Vicki,

What are you using to create that popup:
* an autoresponder (if so, they supply instructions)
* or a plugin?

If a plugin, what is the name of the plugin?

I'm using mailer lite the free one Trish

See screen print below...

Thanks Trish
I tried to set it up but I still had a challenge so changed my provider and voila it's done
Thank you for your help
Lucky I'm only just starting to gain traction with subscribers and got it sorted out
Onward we go :)
Vicki

I used the pop ups too. The reason I asked is because I subscribed to Aweber and that function is impregnated when you insert your custom link .

Who is your email service company?

I have Elementor as a free plugin but having read Reyhanas post plus hearing similar from other members who say elementor slows down their site, which page builder is the best

I have Elementor on my GeneratePress sites. I also use Gutenberg, which I love for ease of use and have video tutorials on my YouTube Channel.

Is it Better than Gutenberg?...

From my experience so far and I have tested a lot of its features it does what Gutenberg does.

What you have to remember with page builders is while they make your page look wonderful if you want to uninstall they leave a lot of code behind, which Gutenberg does not

As for speed I have a nifty little plugin with my sites which makes for ultra quick loading

Which plugin do you use? I am trying Lazy Load to help speed things up a bit.

Autoptimize

Good question Vicki! I am chasing speed for my site at the moment as well as pondering chasing to Gutenberg and Generatepress. I will definitively change my theme to Generatepress, but i am doubtful of Gutenberg. The reviews of it is not that good, but on the other hand i understand that several members at WA are using it and are very happy.

GeneratePress Premium is awesome. I have two sites on my profile here built with it. If you want to see the variety

Chasing speed can be tricky, and I think we can get lost in the narrative.

Gutenburg is a block builder and Elementor a page builder it is kind of like apples and apples. The page builders still hold rank in the functionality stakes. At the end of the day, it is our intent with design and purpose. Blogging or sites for business if you like.

Both currently require a theme to give that WYSIWYG functionality. A poorly coded theme will always cause issues.

Probably it is your theme that is more important, than the page or block builder. We all build competency using the same structures. It can become hard to shift allegiances.

I think WA's choice to use Generate Press as the default theme of choice is a very good move.

It is interesting I run some non-WordPress sites based on servers in upstate New York and the loads time on the eastern seaboard is 2's. The interesting thing is that there are 6 timezones in America so you get out to the pacific coast and the load times go up and down under in Australia the load times are stacking at 8 to 12's. Through the lockdown with folks working from home, there has been a huge decrease in speed in many areas.

What I am saying is that hosting plays a vital roll in the equation.

If we take Divi, for example, it functions best on PHP 7 or above. Many folks are still utilizing hosting that is running on earlier versions so there is redundancy built in before we even start the speed race. I hope that I am making sense there.

In all page builders, we are seeking creative expression, it is the architecture of the theme and bloating or not that can be the source of issues.

Where it becomes vitally important, is in the areas that your main audiences reside, your success depends on quick load times. As we know we can determine where the audiences are coming from.

I think the best bet is to become strategic in the need for speed, can we sacrifice speed in the outer reaches of our Empire if the CBD is singing. In theory, sales are generated from your audiences, and we have to chase the audience. Be the fastest we can where they live.

Pingdom is a good one to use because we can set the region that we want to test from, and they always say to do a before and after when it comes to adding elements. Some are resource hungry.

I would say if you are using Elementor stick with it and test test test. If we chop and change without having strategic purpose we can end up chasing our tails.

That is my two cents over a cup of coffee, I apologize if it is a little off-topic. I am enjoying reading the responses.

Hi Alex
Nice to see you and thank you for this information.
I am not technically savvy, to say the least.
I am a writer and coach so this techy stuff does my head in.
Your advice is so valued and I will stick with it and as you say test test test and I am using generate press as a theme and I love it as it is so easy to use and my sites look smart.
I will go to Pingdom now and see what results I get.
Go well and I hope you are enjoying our gorgeous Autumn
Vicki

Your advice on the topic in question I have never considered, but is logical. The more trafikk you want to sende down a « cable» the more crowded it gets, and the slower the flow gets a consequence.

Very valid points Alex

Hi Vicki, Autumn is great weather-wise one of those really settled times of the year, getting itchy feet though, might have to build a boat lol.

I think if we are honest we all are confronted with technical issues, I think it is the changing nature of the industry that we are involved in.

Speed is one of the topics that is always a conversation starter, and it is so good to be able to share and learn from one another.
Constantly thinking about the journey on our lonesome, hard enough with a crew of likeminded people.
Alex

Build the Boat Alex and cruise past and pick me up so we can do some fishing when the work is complete.

Yes, so good to learn about this Dorrie and I hope your day is going great
Vicki

There are overlapping benefits but they are not Apple to Apple comparison, at this point. Elementor is a page builder while Gutenberg adds functionality using blocks for better layout design as an editor.

To answer your question, know exactly what you want to get done. If it is just layout on post and pages and you only require 4 blocks and that will achieve your goals, I would go with Gutenberg.

The scope of Elementor as a page builder is wider and you have access to a library of elements, which can be drag and dropped to build your page. Therefore, you are loading a lot more functionality to your site as a whole.

Of course, if you were to use html and css, which means more work and not so user friendly, but would best achieve speed outcomes.

Hi Stanley
Thank you so much for your input
I have no idea how to work with CSS or HTML so I will leave that to the experts but I might consider Gutenberg
Will check it out more thoroughly
Thank you
Vicki

Consider this: if you know anything about coding-
HTML is like Gutenberg, basic template,

CSS is like Elementor, advanced, a design template.

Which editor you use will depend on the theme.

When selecting a theme, check Theme Options. This will sho you themes that have more design options when customizing the thetheme itself.

Would really love some input as I want to use a real video making program and not sure which is the easiest to use

Hey Vicki,

You may have already seen my favourite video creating software, but in case you did not, here's my pick: Hope this helps you.

Hi Trish
I am going to look at this now and thank you
I need to have a simple to use program so hopefully my head will understand this :)
Hope all is awesome with you my friend
Vicki

I use the pro version of Screen-cast-o-matic. It's very good and very inexpensive.

thank you so much Mary

As Kaju says, I use the Pro version of it which is very affordable and worthwhile

Perfect-Thanks Dave

Your welcome it's also a yearly payment of $18

Screen-Cast-O-Matic for the best and most cost effective for tutorials.

Camtasia is good but at $249 too expensive.

Kaju

Hi Kaju
Yes I'm thinking screenomatic too
I went to look through the site last night and it looks so great
Thank you
Vicki

You can download a FREE 30-Day Trial first. That's what I did, and I liked its ease of use!

Hi Kaju
Yes, I saw that- Looking like a plan to me thank you
Hope you are doing great as well
Vicki

You too, Vicki!

Camtasia is the way to go.

Hi Bob
A little too expensive for me right now but thank you so much for suggesting a great program like this.
I have heard great reports about Camtasia
Vicki

OBS Studio is open source, and free, but it's a little more technical to operate than Camtasia, but there are a lot of how-to videos out there to show you how to use it. You can record your videos and upload them to your Youtube channel. You can then include the Youtube version in your posts and pages on your website.

Hi Michael and thank you
Vicki

Try Screencast for free or Camtasia for professional results. Loes has information about lots of free stuff on her website

Hi Marion- Good to see you- It's been ages
Thank you- I will go take a look now thank you and I hope all is going great for you
Vicki

Warning: it is an affiliate links so not allowed to post on WA. Loes has affiliate links to almost most of these tools.

Loes has links to lots of free tools. If she chooses to use affiliate links on her website for people who choose to upgrade to the premium versions then that's fine by me. The free tools are free!

Linking to an authority website, such as https://workathomefuture.com/cool-amazing-free-website-tools/ is not against any WA rules.

Screencast. CamStudio. OpenShot. You can Google if you wish. I am a Mac user, iMovie and Final Cut Pro is what I use also Screencast has closed captioning. YouTube Studio.

Hi Brenda
I use a pc - it will still be ok, won't it?

Yes Screencast works with PC same for CamStudio it's free version Camasta you have to pay.

Camstudio is free, but I do not think there has been an update to it since 2013. I know it's compatible with Windows 7, and probably still works on Windows 10 as well. Just FWIW...

I created a separate blogs page with a table list in it and add each new blog to it. It is probably not the most time effective method but it allows me to keep my list 'neat' until I get it mature enough to work out new menu structures etc.

Good Morning Vicki,

I have a dropdown menu with categories, something like 6. When you click then come the posts. Up till now, that looks good, or so I think.

Greetings from the south of Spain Taetske

Hi Taetske
Thank you so much for your input
I have just completed adding more categories and my site looks very smart
I am so thankful for all the help offered tonight

Vicki

Vicki, I went to your profile as I wanted to have a look at your website but it is not listed?
Taetske

Hi Vicki, I’m not sure I understand what you mean, but would this be a theme customization (or widget) issue? Or are you referring to a drop down menu? Maybe your theme could be changed?

I think a clean and simple format is always better, if possible. Readers are so have short attention span and get easily overwhelmed.

When you open my site there are drop down menus but they are dropping for a long way filled with posts and it looks silly

I see what you mean. I’m using a “Recent Posts” widget instead, and I’ve customized it to list only 5. Maybe that would work for you? Another option I’ve seen is a customizable “Most Popular Posts” widget.

I also have a search bar (I cover a lot of subjects) and categories; neither of these take up much visual space in my sidebar.

Thanks Laurie- I'm off to see what I can change :)

If you want to see what it looks like on my site, just let me know.

Yes please- can you pm me you URL Laurie :)

Hi Laurie
I did it!!!! Yay- It looks so great and I am thrilled
Thank you all those who offered help
Vicki

You do not have to put all your posts in a drop down menu. For example just put the most important ones.

Hi Mikael
Thank you but how do I make them all fit if I don't use a drop down
I feel dumb but I really need to make my site look smarter

Looks from the comments below that you have found a solution?

Hi Mikael- Yes and thank you so much for your help :)
Go well and enjoy your new week ahead
Vicki

Hi Ms. Vicki! I put mine in categories. I use a widget that shows categories on the right hand side of my site. People can click on a category.

There may be other widgets that might work well for you. Maybe one that lists the posts by month and year.

Hi Sondra
I did this but my main menu has drop downs filled with posts and it looks messy
Ahhhhhh lol

I like Laurie's suggestion above also. I've got those one one of my websites.

I guess each theme handles this differently. Mine doesn't do the drop down menus. Basically, my really old posts go into oblivion unless someone does a search for the specific keywords. That is unless I choose to feature them. (I do that on my fun hobby, food website.)

Changing themes can be a headache....

Good luck on whatever you decide.

Got it sorted Sondra and I am ready to rock n roll again
Thanks you

Vicki,

I put sub-headings with more posts under each of those example:

Dog Breeds
Small
Blogs
Breeds
Medium
Blogs
Breeds

Each one of these could be a Custom Link with drop down
blog titles :)

Hope this helps you - I know it did me there are so many posts
on the doggie site now since I put them together ::))

Love you,
Susie ::))

Vicki - sorry the words/titles did not stay indented when I hit
the reply button! Each of the Small and Medium should be
moved in two spaces and the others 3 spaces Sorry :(

Ah good thinking Susan- Thank you- will go sort them out by doing this
Wehoo!!! Happy worker now:)
Thank you
Vicki :)

All good I knew what you meant lol

You know, I've actually been wondering the same thing myself. I've always worried that a drop down menu could get too long and people would be turned off by it. Curious to see what solutions to that would be.

Love you,
Susie ::))
