Hi Victoria, this is a very good question; you've received answers that will be helpful to many WA members. I see from the answers than an e-book can be protected with a password. But it's also important to protect your work in another way, by registering the the copyright with the Library of Congress (if you're in the U.S.A.). Anyone can do this themselves; they have tutorials and FAQ pages on their website. You can do it online for a modest fee, attaching a copy of your work. Contrary to popular belief, there is no provision in U.S. law for a so-called "common-law copyright" where you mail a copy of the work to yourself, keeping the envelope sealed after you receive it.
Registering copyright should protect you if someone plagiarizes the whole work or significant amounts of it word for word. It MAY NOT protect you if someone steals not only the basic idea, but many specific ideas from your work, and is clever enough to change the writing style, the order the ideas are presented, and other details. Plagiarism is very difficult to prove in court unless someone copies significant portions of your work word for word, especially if they have a good lawyer. I know about this from an experience that happened in my family. I know I'm digressing and I don't want to be a downer. The chance of someone plagiarizing your e-book is negligible. For all my ebooks, I outsource and send them a word copy of my ebooks. They use InDesign and include my images and convert to PDF. The ebooks I charge for are protected with a password, revealed only to the buyer and InDesign allows protection against copying and pasting. I also outsource a graphic designer for stunning ebook covers. A great cover design (and title) will increase sales.
If you plan on writing ebooks learning to use InDesign is a great asset if you can't afford to outsource a professional. Personally, I've tinkered with InDesign but it's time consuming to learn and unless you use it on a regular basis it's easy to forget it's functions.
I'd be interested to see your book when you've finished it ;)

Almost all eBook formats are in PDF. You can simply use Word to convert to a PDF but it will not be "protected" unless you pay for some software. Perhaps you could find someone on Fiverr to convert with passwords or whatever you would like for $5?
BTW, In the past I published a magazine - we always created it in PowerPoint and then converted it to PDF. The layout and pictures came out much better.
Thank you - I hadn't thought of using PowerPoint and then converting it to PDF - I will give it a try and see what I get. I considered Fiver but the ebook is quite long therefore would end up quite costly.

PowerPoint is a lot easier for layout. I am not suggesting using Fiverr to create it but to convert and have it protected. I am sure someone would do that for the $5.

Hi Vic, It depends on what you want to do with the ebook? place it on Amazon as a downloadable only? and/or Print on demand? You'll need to create it as an EPUB book. Or will you use it to sell on your own site? You can simply have it as a PDF on your own site or landing page. I have always used http://www.shutterstock.com/ for images since they are more economical than others with outstanding images.

Thank you for your suggestions. I will want the ebook to be downloaded from my website but also to be sold through the likes of Amazon. As far as images go I am all sorted so it's just a question of finding the best way forward.

Would anyone know if membership plugins are now accepted by WA since the availability to purchase domain names here?
I previously had to move a website away from
Due mostly to security issues, certain plugins are not permitted at WA. , that was the explanation I received from Kyle, as WA hosting does boast the highest security measures

I'm not sure about the connections not allowed here - I have had issues in the past with plugins that connect out to other services - but I understand that those may be restricted, as they could cause unknown bandwidth to be used, which could affect other people using the services.
As for membership plugins, if you have one in mind, post it here, or to support - and I'm certain anyone that's tried to use it will confirm if it works ok here.

I wanted to go over the Certification course material again but I can only see Course 1. Are courses 2 to 5 not available any longer? If yes, how can I access them?

Click on Certification Courses on the left. It will bring a drop down menu listing all 5 levels.
Look under the green, blue black buttons on the left, there is certification courses, there you can choose which one you like to see

Denise is right. I'm with Rakuten and did it by finding a Rakuten member first and then applied to their affiliate program through Rakuten. Why don't you try www.chroniclebooks.com and see if you can access them through that member link. Good luck
I have link share but it's through a company that I applied to as an affiliate. My suggestion is to find an affiliate with your website niche. Your chances are better to get approved. Hope this is a help.

Hey, Victoria! It's possible "Publishers" in this case is the same thing as an affiliate.
Some companies just like to use fancy wording, like those terrible MLM companies like to call their victims things like "Sales rep", "business partner", etc.
Sorry, a bit of bitterness there! I know Linkshare is obviously not in the same basket as those companies.
Anyway, try going through the sign up process and see what it's all about. It may be just as I said about, a different name for us, or something entirely different.
