What About Me

Greetings,

This really is more of a question, but since I haven't posted anything in a while I figured I'd catch up with everyone a bit. But fear ye not, I will get to my point, sooner rather than later...hopefully...

So, as I mentioned before, I started with Bootcampt (love it!). I'm still not certain what outside forces compelled me to start, but I'm glad it (they?) did. Initially, I was looking to just to get some additional knowledge to boost my already existing site that is unrelated to Wealthy Affiliate, but I soon (okay, perhaps not so soon) discovered that I could actually create a website to promote Wealthy Affiliate! I mean, I actually had a target customer in mind!

I'll call that the WA SMACK!!! Others may just say, DUH...

Moving right along...I got to the lesson on building your About Me page. "Easy!" I thought, "I already did that!". So, why am I still here, a week later, scratching my head with very little words to write...I know....most unusual...

So how did you create your About Me page?

I was doing some research and came across some "elements" that should be present: use the third person, the number of words used (no more than 500), and listing important accomplishments, include "humanizing" detail (do I really need to prove I'm a human?), blah, blah, blah...Very impressive, really...but is all of that really necessary?

Someone had suggested that I start reviewing people's bios; I generally take a quick look at someone's bio when I leave a comment for a post, but I haven't really been paying attention to the format people use. Well, I will now.

I have no doubt that I'll get over this hurdle, preferably before I turn 50 (oops...that's next week, gotta get a move on!). Just wanted to get some feedback on whether anyone actually used a formula when they created their bio, or was it more of an "organic" process.

Enjoy your day, folks...keep those creative juices flowing...have cake (always have cake)...but most of all...

Strive to Thrive,

Veronica

Hi Veronica,

I just wrote mine out, I didn't think to look up how it should be done, I followed what Kyle told us in the lessons. I just wrote a bit about myself and why I chose to create my website, its not long but to the point.

I don't think they should be too long, I just went back to look at mine, it's been a while and it's just under 400 words.

When I added my men's line not long after, I went back and threw that in. Start writing it out and keep in natural it's all good :)

Cake sounds good...I'll have to pick one up today ;)

I had watched Kyle's video a couple of times, but for me, there will be times it just doesn't click, and then I started thinking too much...way too much!

I always appreciate your comment, Patsy. And I'll gladly share some cake with you!

I'm cutting it as we speak....

Don't be late :D

I did and do Veronica, you can take a look at my blog on the subject "Why tell us about You." It is on my profile page. I wrote the blog because I saw a lot of newbies that were either shy or did not know what to write. I have always found that if you do an outline of what you want to write really works.

I just took a quick look at your profile page, Harvey, but didn;t see the title. I'll admit, I'm rushing a bit...can you send me the link, please.

Hi Veronica! I read from a book I forgot where that in the about me page you can tell your audience about all the effort that goes into delivering your product or service. This includes how you achieved relevant education, trainings, certifications and experience. It says the backstory to your product or service is an absolute essential part of your marketing. I hope this helps.

I think what you're saying is in alignment with what I read about talking about adding any accomplishments and experience that's relevant to my niche. For some reason, I was able to do this easily for my first site, this one is just causing me to fasten my thinking cap on tighter, lol.

Thanks, for your input, Mike.

Your welcome Veronica!

My about me is probably too long. I didn't think too much about it, I just wrote about me and what I thought was important for the reader to know. I have three websites and they are all a bit different, trying to keep reader in mind. One is about training my dog so my about me page is actually called About Ralph !
No third person used at all
Good luck with yours and have a happy birthday.
With Grace and Gratitude
Karen

Ok...it seems that the consensus is NOT to write in the third person. I came across some helpful tips, but in the end, I have to go with what feels right.

Thanks for your comment, Karen.

Hi Veronica,

This confused me as well.

Kyle's About Me pages in the training are first person. But the wisdom on the Internet says third person. I decided that Kyle's way is probably the best way. I believe in following the example of successful people, and I believe he qualifies as a success. :-)

I'm doing a review site on something near and dear to me, so it makes sense to discuss my experience with the products in the first person. I believe it makes me more believable.

I can understand third person narratives, but I'm not sure whether it builds trust or just looks weird.

When I have more than two pages on my site, i will show it to you and you can give me your opinion.

Good to have you back. :-)

Wendy

Although I understand the reasoning behind using the third person, I think this may be one instance where it may not work for all sites. Just thinking about writing my bio in the third person gave me the creeps!

Thanks for your feedback, Wendy.

It's not really about me, it's about what I can do for you. I think copyblogger nailed it really well https://www.copyblogger.com/about/

WHOA!!

Rich, you always seem to have the goodies! I took a quick peek, but I'll read up on it some more.

Great link! Thanks for sharing your treats!

You're most welcome! :)

Ooh, your 50th coming up, Veronica. How exciting!! I took a really long time to write my About Me page on Inspiring Mompreneurs. I started with an About Us page which was more like a Start Here page... helping visitors navigate my site. Recently, also after starting Affiliate Bootcamp I decided to get personal. I also added some testimonials of ladies I've feautured on my site. Check it out, it may help you with your process.

Of all the things that I thought would cause me to get stuck, I never would have thought it would be writing my About Me page, lol.

I'll make sure to take a look, Lauren. Thanks!

I think most content should be written conversationally.

I was leaning towards that, James, but for some reason, I just got all tripped up.

Good evening Veronica,

Hey, have not seen you for awhile, hope all is well with you.
I have 2 websites so I will not do a WA one, that would be too much hay on my fork right now.
You missed my monthly post I published 2 days ago, have a look and tell me what you think.

Greetings from the south of Spain, Taetske

Greetings from New York!

I've been around, but I've been spending more time going through Bootcamp, scrolling through unanswered questions, and taking care of personal things. My last WA post was a little over a week ago; I absolutely love writing posts for this platform, but I don't force it.

I thought I left a comment on one of your posts recently, but I think it may have just been a reply to a comment you left. I'll swing by and take a look.

Thanks for your support, Taetske!

Definitely NOT third person. It's like talking to a new friend not applying for a job.

When I read that, I thought that was strange. Interestingly enough, though, I was leaving a comment on someone's post and took a quick peek at their bio...it was written in the third person.

It's "about me" not "about her".

Hahaha....great point, Marion!
