Week 22 - Healthier Me Challenge

Greetings To All,

For the rest of this year, I'll be writing weekly posts, of my Healthier Me Challenge! In each of the posts, I'll be sharing a variety of things: my weekly goals; new recipes; excerpts from books I'm reading; and a few mental obstacles that I'm fighting, to name a few. My hope is that as I share my journey, I will encourage, inspire and motivate others to reach their Best Self!!!

Weekly Goals: Instead of focusing on words like "can't", "don't" and "bad", I decided to make some changes. So, each week, I'll adopt a healthier habit, and eliminate an unhealthy habit. It can be anything! The only rule is to adopt AND eliminate!

Week # 22

Healthy Habit to Adopt: Cardio 3x a week
Unhealthy Habit to Eliminate: drinking fruit drinks after 5 pm

Update:

Unlike my encounter with "Superman" last week, I don't have anything earth-shattering to report for this week. New York City has gotten an unusual amount of rain this year, and especially in the past few weeks, so I haven't walked as much. But the rain did force me to do some strength-building exercises. I don't know why I have such a disdain for weights, it's as if I see them as the necessary evil. Walking is easy, but lifting weights...that requires a lot more energy...perhaps I'm lazier than I thought...

But I'll admit, it was an exhilarating experience! I'm sure I could have pushed myself to do more, but that I did anything was an accomplishment.

Although they look more like weapons of mass destruction, these are actually what I used during my strenth-building sessions.


Going forward, I'll be having my apple cider vinegar "tea" along with a fruit bowl in the morning. This was delicious: 1/2 banana, strawberries, grapes, mango chunks, walnuts and chia seeds (chia seeds are supposed to provide a good source of fiber.

My sarcasm any silly side comes out more on this platform, but I also have a very warped sense of humor...I love that about me, and I appreciate it in others! It's a misunderstood gift!

Ahhh....maybe in the another 5 years...or ten...

You are doing all the right things. I had the same thing for breakfast...different fruit but the same idea. I use flax meal instead of Chia for the fiber. Yum yum.....Debbie

I use flaxseed meal for my protein bars, but I thnk I'll try that on my fruit bowl next time. Thanks for the tip, Debbie.

I have a frozen shoulder, so my mobility is severely limited. Grrr!

There are a lot more bumps and falls than there are climbs to victory. There are two things I have to keep in mind: It took me time to become unhelathy, and it will take me time to become healthier. This is for a lifetime.

Excellent! Yeah, we have to find alternatives whenever the weather doesn't permit our favorite exercise routine. I love walking too but can't always get my walking in, even in this beautiful So. CA weather. Body weight exercises are also excellent way to burn calories and build healthy muscle. I wish you great success on your journey, Veronica!
