Greetings To All,

For the rest of this year, I'll be writing weekly posts, of my Healthier Me Challenge!
In each of the posts, I'll be sharing a variety of things: my weekly goals; new recipes; excerpts from books I'm reading; and a few mental obstacles that I'm fighting, to name a few. My hope, is that as I share my journey, I will encourage, inspire and motivate others to reach their Best Self!!!

Weekly Goals:
Instead of focusing on words like "can't", "don't" and "bad", I decided to make some changes. So, each week, I'll adopt a healthier habit, and eliminate an unhealthy habit. It can be anything! The only rule is to adopt AND eliminate!

Week #17
Healthy Habit to Adopt: Vegetarian diet
Unhealthy Habit to Eliminate: lack of exercising

Update:
So, I had steak (yummy!), and did very little exercise - although I did walk over 20,000 steps yesterday (I'm still hurtin"). Regarding the steak...yeah, I was craving beef and I just went with it...but I did have it with vegetables...

My lack of exercise is still a bit troubling. I'm currently going through "the change"...packing away my winter clothes and getting out my spring and summer wardrobe (what "change" did you think I meant?) so that's always a tedious process. I have a friend's 50th birthday celebration to attend in 2 less than 3 weeks so I'm panicking just a bit. I gotta get out of this "no exercise slump".

So, not one to end on a gloomy note, I'll leave you with these wise words as a reminder that we're all human:

"While man's desires and aspirations stir, he cannot choose but err."
Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe

Strive to Thrive,
Veronica

The great GÖTHE !

So you had a steak !!!!!!

Bad girl !!!

I hope the cow was vegetarian !

:):):)

Hey there Attila!

Hey, cows eat vegetables so that's not so bad!

There's always a good excuse for a succulent steak ! :):):)

Give it 2 days and shoot for 20,200 steps. Your diet is fine!

But she had a steak !

Fortunately the cow was vegetarian !

WHOA PAPA!!! That was an unusual day because I was walking all over Manhattan....definitely not my usual walking day.

Are there cows in Manhattan ? :):):)

Pethaps not in Manhattan, but certainly upstate New York.

I the central park !:):):)

When I taught behavior modification classes in my weight loss centers - we many times dealt with "cheating" or going of the program - I always told them to go off completely for one day (pig out) - get it out of their system and then get back on - your body can only adsorb so many calories in a day and then the rest go through you unasborbed - now that was very controlled intact diet - but it applies to any health or exercise - we are human and tend to "go of" our routine from time to time - the secret is to get back on the program ASAP - the next day. No harm no foul - for one day - but complete disaster with a "little cheating" everyday or continued no exercising - that get you no progress.

I may expand this into my blog today - you are determined - your focus is on good health - keep at it.

That's great advice, Dave. The only thing that really concerns me is my laid-back attitude towards exercise. I appreciate your comment, thank you!

Exercise - after you get far enough into it - becomes addictive - hard to avoid - I have not been there for some years - but I used to "HAVE TO' run my 5 miles everyday if not on a rugby field. I wanted to do it rather than avoid it - but you have to push for 30 to 60 days to get there - in my experience.

You want to make money and your niche has to do with health right? the motivation is you are the personal testimonial to inspire those who visit your site - make that your motivation to exercise..

My niche doesn't have anything to do with health, this is just my personal challenge. But I appreciate what you're saying about pushing myself to the point of addiction.

you may add a new niche or site as it becomes your obsession.

Way to go Veronica two thumbs up.

always a better way,
sending blessing your way
Linda

Thank you, Linda!

Thank you, Veronica! :)

Thanks, Reanna!

Hi Veronica, it's nice to read about your healthier me challenge, as I'm also working on getting healthier,
Keep at it.

That's excellent, Alejandra!

Hi Veronica,
I feel you with the exercise thing, I fell off the wagon...completely!! Until I had a doctor's appointment this week and I discovered I am 10 pounds overweight (in my mind, that's too much!!) So, with that being said, I'm on my way to getting rid of it by August, that's when I go back for a checkup. As for you and the steak thing, it's okay!! Every now and then, I want a juicy Ribeye steak, and I get it. I don't go overboard, just once in a while. Don't beat yourself up over it, you will be fine. I've got to get batteries for my scale, I'm not giving up!! You're my motivation in this, because of how you changed your diet, and pushed through, so you can't give up either. Things will be okay for the both of us!! Have a great weekend, take care my friend.
Mary

Awww, Mary...you're too kind!

I actually feel no guilt about the steak...it was too delicious! There may be a day that I decide to embrace a vegetarian diet completely, but that day is not today.

I believe there's a reason behind most if not all of our actions. So I'm just wondering what's the root of why I choose not to exercise regularly. Granted, I usually walk several times a week, but I know that's not enough to shed the excess fat I need to lose. I'm finding this challenge is more mental than physical. Thanks for your weekly encouragement, Mary!

Hi there
well done and best wishes on your tasks
Cheers....PB

Thank you, Phil.

Excellent idea....something we all can benefit from. Thanks.

Thanks, Debbie!

Veronica! I hear the lack of exercise mode -- I am having the same troubles .. and its a problem since I am posting my blog on healthy weight loss -- But every day I try to read something inspirational and try to do one more good habit change. and the sharing part always inspires me to remember --- people are watching... with that thought! My prayers are with you...

Writing this post weekly gives me a great challenge, not only to improve my health but to hold myself accountable. So no matter what kind of week I had, I know that I still have to write.

Thanks for the encouragement, Vicky.
