A to Z Analogy: Octopus

In my A to Z Analogy, I will take places, things and people and relate them to developing our online business. This is just for fun, but perhaps, you'll be able to see something from a different perspective.

Today's Analogy: O for Octopus

With all the programs I watch on Netflix on animals, you would think I could share some key facts about an octopus. Alas, I only know the obvious: they have 8 arms. Oh..and they are reported to be very intelligent - I guess you would have to be in order to operate 8 arms!

Now, let's relate this to Wealthy Affiliate...

Oh...and just add an extra 3 arms for every child. Does that sound about right?

Many Moving Parts, One Mind

There's a saying that life is a balancing act. I'm not sure if I agree with that completely. I think like is more about accepting the imbalance in your life.

There will be times when you need to focus on health issues that may have come up, whether for yourself or a family. It saddens me when I read of people almost apologizing for having to step away from the platform to take care of health issues. I feel sad that they have to go through that issue, but also, that they think they need to apologize for taking care of something that is so important!

Although I'm not a parent, I did work as a live-in nanny once, so I got a tiny glimpse into that strange world of parenting. That children can gobble up your time - as cute as they are - would be a grave understatement.

Then there are obligations we have with extended family, friends...oh, and there's this thing called fun that we like to squeeze in there from tie-to-time.

And business...there will days when your focus is just on doing research, reading other blogs, books, and other articles that are related to your niche. Then on other days you'll just in that "space" and all you'll want to do is write.

Prioritizing is Key

I think it's more about prioritizing and less about striving to balance everything. I can't even count how many times I beat myself up because I spent more time doing one thing and less on something else. Now, I'm not advocating not having some sort of system or schedule in place; "going with the flow" will only get you so far, and it's unlikely to lead you to any long-term success.

There's a lot we have to accomplish in 24 hours - well, actually less because we do have to sleep - but there's no need to put unnecessary pressure. By all means, push yourself, but be OK with the imbalance.

Whether you're operating with all 8 arms today, or just two, may your day be a productive and joyful one. And always...

Strive to Thrive,

Veronica

Yes, Veronica...Although 8 arms would be handy, we'll have to settle for good business practices like time management, prioritizing and good old fashion hard work. But it's fun to imagine having 8 arms. Thanks for the visuals.
Debbie

Yes, that would be interesting and fun! But I would need those expandable ones like Elastic Girl from "The Incredibles", LOL!!!

I could do with 8 arms V... know any wiling Octopus donors?? :) ~Mark

Mark with 8 arms...that's the makings of world domination!

Ha ha... Yep I like to aim big or maybe that should be wide? :)

Hello, Veronica.
I also don't believe that we need to have balance in life. As a child of God, you are called to reign in life and if you are not reigning, you have to consult God in that, till you have learned to do that.
So don't quit consulting God.

"The foolishness of GOD is wiser than man's wisdom..."

Prioritising and planning have to be paramount for me. Until I make a success of my online business I still have to run my offline business which accounts for about 60 hrs a week so I have to plan and prioritise daily to make sure everything gets done and I can spend time here at WA investing in my future.

I think there's a lot we could learn from you, Andrew.

Thanks Veronica, appreciated.

Whew! Prioritizing -- that could be your next analogy! A tough job, for me at least....
Tim

I'll let you handle that one, Tim.

Prioritizing does help to keep on in a balance.

I think it's easier to feel overwhelmed when we're not clear on what's priority and what's not.

Nice, thanks Veronica!

Wayne

Thanks for reading, Wayne. You've become one of my regulars, LOL.

Hey steady on, we’ll get talked about!

Don’t even bring up those painted nails! Leave me out of that one! Lol

Have a fantastic weekend!

Wayne

I constantly struggle to balance everything. I have the luxury (most of the time) to focus on my affiliate marketing but still don't feel like I have enough time in the day.

Prioritizing is key, but with all the moving parts of the business, this proves challenging as well. I don't write enough, I don't socialize enough and I don't promote enough. I need eight arms and two brains lol.

There seems to be a fine line between calling ourselves higher beating ourselves up for not doing enough.

Ohh, yeah...and 2 brains would be great!

My mind should work if not, nothing will happen.

Nothing happens if the mind isn't working...no matter how many arms you have!

Right.
