A to Z Analogy: ET

In my A to Z Analogy, I will take places, things and people and relate them to developing our online business. This is just for fun, but perhaps, you'll be able to see something from a different perspective.

Today's Analogy: E for Extraterrestrial

Webster's Dictionary defines extraterrestrial is anything originating or existing outside the earth or it's atmosphere. But, for many, we will always have this image in our minds:

"ET", Steven Spielberg's 1982 classic movie (I just learned that the total earnings surpassed that of Star Wars and held the of highest grossing film for 11 years!)

"ET" won the hearts of many as the weird-looking, adorably cute alien. I won't go into the details of the movie - mainly because I don't remember all of it - but I do remember that he wasn't immediately embraced by all.

During the first few months on this platform, I used the different variations of the word "overwhelm" ...often! Not because I was bombarded with so much information - oh, don't get me wrong, there's a ton of information here - but mainly, this was foreign to me, or alien. And yes, I did often feel as if it was out of this world!

It's not what you're confronted with that matters, but how you respond to what you're confronted with...

I'm sure that if I remembered the movie, I could probably look at each character and do a comparison and analysis of how each person responded to the arrival of ET. But for now, I'll just share my own response when confronted with the unknown...

I freeze!!!

Not every time, but many times, when something new or "alien" comes into my life, if I can't find those answers immediately, frustration will usually follow. So, to change my reaction, I pause...pray over it...think it through...then I proceed.

When you think about it, there are so many "unknowns" in our lives, that if we don't take the steps to adjust our "reaction time", we can miss the blessings of those "ET's" in our lives.

Your comments are always appreciated. So, go ahead...embrace the "alien"...and always...

Strive to Thrive,

Veronica

Hello, Veronica. It's a matter of self-management, Veronica.
Yesterday, I wrote an article about it in my blog post.

I totally agree, Nelson. And what's amazing is that it can be done in an instant!

Thanks for the valuable information and keep up the great work...

Thanks so much for reading, Paul.

As you say Veronica, "It's not what you're confronted with that matters, but how you respond to what you're confronted with...".

I know that personally an immediate reaction from me is usually shortsighted.

Taking a deep breath and stepping back for a bit always helps.

Mark

Absolute, Mark. If we were able to see the bigger picture, the fear would probably fade. Such is the life of a mortal, lol.

Great analogy Veronica. Having been a “Change Consultant,” at one time in my career, I realized most people are not comfortable with change and one of the prime reasons is that it is alien. Two things I keep in mind from the eastern culture is that “Karma,” is inevitable and something the late Bruce Lee said. Basically he said “Empty your mind, be formless, shapeless, like water. Put water in a cup, it becomes the cup. Put it in a teapot, it becomes the teapot. Water can flow or crash, or creep or drip. Become like water my friend.”

Ahh...water is actually my favorite element, Harvey!

Loved the movie ET, blast from the past. This post was exactly what I needed today. I have a whole day to write more content and I have been procrastinating all morning. Thanks for the encouragement to proceed without an6 more hesitation.
Kim

So glad it gave you what you needed, Kimberly. I think I may have to get this movie to add it to my collection!

Very good point. It is kind of unknown and sometimes feel frustration. But with WA and great coach in our site, I feel confident now.

I agree, Anthony. It's a lot less scary when you have people by your side, guiding you along the way.

I can relate. My first reaction to new information is to reject it, get angry and ignore! I have to go back to it several times to see its value...if any.
Debbie

Yeah...there's some ager in there at times for me as well. I said "frustration" but I believe the root of that is anger.

Veronica,

Great post! It made me smile. I love your perspective on how you respond to what you're confronted with.

Lisa

Thanks so much, Lisa. I thoroughly enjoy writing these light-hearted posts. It helps to maintain my sanity!

Thank you...

You're welcome, Fleeky!
