Are you tired of the same environment day after day? Would you love to be able to go somewhere new, but perhaps aren't sure where you should go? The best places to go traveling may not be as hard to find as you may believe.

In reality, the world is just waiting around for you to enjoy its splendor. Perhaps you're touring by yourself since you don’t have buddies that are willing and able to go with you. Or maybe, you mainly love times of solitude that touring with others doesn’t offer you.

Whatever the situation may be, you may want to start your own bucket list of travel locations. All of these locations happen to be very welcoming to single tourists. Here are just a few of the world’s best places to travel, just to get you started on your greatest adventures.

Australia

Australia is a common travel destination for many travelers, and for good reason, too. Australia can offer anything from gorgeous beaches to snorkeling to bustling city life. You can get a hotel, rent an apartment, or even lease personal residences during your time there. While there, you live in comfort and security.

Australia is actually a wonderful location for the people that are searching for lots of adventures. Australia has endless possibilities for a solo traveler. The wildlife and plant life in Australia is stunning and is sure to grab your attention so that you'll never want to leave!

The Bahamas

When most people think about traveling, one of the first places they consider going to is the Bahamas. Why wouldn't you? Soft white sand, rolling waves, and gorgeous sunsets make this beach a prime destination. The Bahamas are so beautiful; you may never want to leave there. To travel alone, you can always relax to watch the waves, or go swimming, or even surfing. But, if you go with friends or loved ones, you can also expect a great time.

The Bahamas are the ideal tranquil vacation in the Caribbean with the beautiful beaches (such as Cable Beach) and extensive golf courses. There are very lively marketplaces in Freeport and Nassau. If you are looking for something requiring a little more strenuous activity, try doing some diving to see the coral reefs or take a hike in the Lucayan National Park.

They also have fishing, duty-free shops with in the area of the luxurious resorts. However, away from the resort area there are other attractions such as, wildlife preserves, golf courses, botanical gardens and underwater limestone cases.

Niagara Falls

A lot of people think of Niagara Falls as being for honeymooners. However, there are many people who travel to Niagara Falls solo. This is an opportunity to meet other solo (single) travelers.

It’s a good idea to stay in Niagara Falls because you will have the time to spend visiting the attractions and other activities within walking distance and not have to do a lot of freeway commuting.

Some of the attractions there are the Hornblower Niagara Cruise, Journey Behind the Falls and Cave of the Winds. You can get a free rain poncho at those attractions! You can also walk along the Niagara Wine Trail. If you are in the mood for a little excitement, you can always hit the casino!

Make sure you don’t miss walking across the Rainbow Bridge, where you can straddle being in two countries at the same time (America and Canada) at a specific point of the bridge. At the middle of the bridge you get the best view of all three waterfalls.

Spain

You definitely won’t feel alone while visiting in Spain. There are many day tours available to choose from that offer complete independence as well as being able to make new friends as you share the tours with others.

The Gray Line Tours offer many all day trips to several different places, such as the “over the top” tombs of past Spanish royalty.

Visit Costo Brava if you want the opportunity for a lazy day of soaking up and sun and swimming. Possibly, you would rather go for a more serene visit the cliff top of the botanic gardens.

Spain is a very friendly country for traveling by yourself. While there make an attempt to live like the locals. Try some of these local behaviors:

  • Spanish dinner doesn’t usually take place until after 9:30PM. So, the thing is to “merendar”, which means to snack. The merendar happens between 5 and 7PM.
  • Use a fan to accessorize your outfit. Spanish women use fans as part of their wardrobe.
  • Make it a point to say hi to people you don’t know. People are very friendly in Spain.
  • Don’t forget to sample the cuisine. Many restaurants that combine traditional with modern textures and tastes.

Tanzania

Tanzania is the place where many of the most famous national parks of Africa reside and where you can visit the grandiose Mount Kilimanjaro. Mount Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain peak in Africa.

People usually travel here more to see the view of the snow-capped mountain or to climb it. The best time to attempt climbing the mountain is during the period between June to October because it is the dry season.

Other activities include seeing the magnificent wildlife on the different safaris, or spending some relaxing time sopping up some rays on the beautiful beaches, scuba diving, and snorkeling to experience the natural wonders of the coral gardens, colorful fish and the sparkling clear waters.

Thailand

Thailand is often a welcoming spot for the solo traveler. Thailand has a great reputation for its beautiful countryside and friendly people. A place in the Mae Hong Son providence called Pai, is a terrific location to see the natural beauty of the country. You can also enjoy the Thai hospitality and cooking of the native communities.

Elephants are held in the highest regard in Thailand. There are statues and pictures of them everywhere you go there. There are many tours you can take to see them in their natural habitat, strolling through the jungle or bathing. You can also get an opportunity to feed them at meal time.

If you are a history or photography buff you would love the Sukhothai Old City, which is the very old capital of Thailand. Despite all the battle throughout the centuries, the city is still standing with pride. The city is considered a World Heritage site and a lot of funds are invested to preserve it. Each structure there tells a story of its own.

You can mingle with the monks and devoted Buddhists; have some fun shopping on the floating markets. You can site see on your own or you can connect with one of the guided tours. You can visit the many waterfalls, the hill tribe village, pagodas, temples and many other attractions.

There is so much to see, you should start your days early. Hire a driver, rent a motor bike or go it on your own. This place provides so much serenity you may decide to stay!

Start Your Own Travel Bucket Journal

Vacationing alone is undoubtedly an opportunity to find out more about yourself. Yes, it can be a little scary at first if you are not used to being alone. Start off small and take a trip that is not too far from home and only for a couple of days. Do that until you get used to it and then you can broaden your horizons and the length of time you stay away.

With any travel, we should always be safety minded just as we would walking down the street in our own neighborhood. With that being said, we still need to be able to live life and enjoy doing it. There are an abundance of places to go alone and still have the time of your life!

So, as you can see, the best places to go traveling aren't all that hard to find. In fact, some of them can be right outside your back door if you care to look, because all over the world there are plenty of great destinations to visit.

Remember, “The world is your oyster”.

Very nice post Verna! I too went Sukhothai. It canot be described. You have to see it fro yourself.
Thanks for sharing.

Hi Eric,

You know, I think it is only natural for people to want to travel with others, but sometimes I think we have to get out of our comfort zones and try something new.

Since you have traveled to Sukhothai, what do you think about it being a destination one could enjoy alone.

I think it is certainly a place to go if you are tied up in knots and need to decompress to experience a little peace.

Thanks for you comments. Appreciate it much.

I like to travel with or without others. If I travel with others, it has to match. All parties have to have pretty much the same ideas of were to go and what to see. Nowadays the others is my wife. Sure, she likes sometimes to go and watch, enjoy, or buy things I'm not interested in it at all. So we split for an afternoon and in the evening we both have a lot to tell.
If you like architecture, history and strolling in the past, then Sukhothai is definitively a place to go. Alone or with company.

Thanks Eric.

I definitely agree that the people you travel with should be like-minded about things or there may be some bumps ahead! Good idea about the wife. Each of you have to opportunity to do want you want and then come together to share.

Thanks again for your input.

Verna
