Keeping Your Goals Met

Have you ever set goals for yourself and they just fell by the wayside? Whatever the case may be, it’s imperative to find a way of keeping your goals met. Sometimes we write them down, sometimes we read them aloud every day and sometimes we let life get in the way and our goals get put up on the shelf.

Instead, we should keep revitalizing our goals by thinking about them on a daily basis. When we don’t, we will quickly forget about them because the things we do from day to day take over. Rather than really making the goals we make a priority in our lives, we just respond to whatever on earth happens.

When we just let things happen in our lives, there will be times when we find that even though we are very busy during the day, we seldom accomplish anything. We let all the little everyday jobs start to take over and even grow.

The negativity starts to set in and we start thinking that we will never meet the goals we set for ourselves. Admit it; you’ve had this feeling probably more than once about accomplishing those goals! I know I have.

Does Motivation Equal Action?

We have to remember to find a way to keep our goals in front of us and not up on a shelf. Focus on your goals and do something each day to help you move closer to the goals. By vigorously working on your goals, you will be more motivated and feel that sense that you are getting somewhere

There are some who believe that motivation generates action and that would be correct. However, action can also generate motivation. It can be very stimulating to see that your goals seem to be on the horizon. The feeling that you get from building and continuing to drive forward is what motivation is all about!

Taking action to meet goals can generate motivation.

Conclusion

Post your goals in several different places around your house and office where you can easily see them. Don’t use tiny pieces of stickers. Post your goals on full size paper and use a large font. This will keep your goals in the forefront of your mind because you can always see them.

Keep things uncomplicated. Start by making daily goals, then weekly, monthly and so on. If you don’t meet some of your goals at the end of the week, think about what could have kept you from doing so and then make any appropriate adjustments. If you met all of your goals, try to push yourself a little more the next week.

If you don’t want to use the paper, you could also write them on a marker board or a spiral notebook to keep track of your goal accomplishments. I prefer to use the marker board because I line through each goal when I complete it.

At the end of the week I don’t just get to see what I didn’t finish, but also what I did finish. That still gives me a sense of accomplishment and I get a little ego boost from it. I’m still motivated to do better the next week, especially after I have thought about the things I did that could have prevented me from accomplishing all the goals and make modifications.

Try it for yourself because creating goals work. If this doesn’t work for you, try something else and something else until you find something that works for you to move you to take action to meet the goals you want to accomplish in your work and your life in general. Doing nothing just doesn’t work! That is, unless your goal is to do nothing!

Thanks for taking the time to check out my blog. If you haven’t already started, I hope you will now make the effort to set goals and keep track of them on an ongoing basis.

Cheers,

Verna
