How to Use the Power of Words to Encourage

You may be familiar with the old phrase, "Sticks and stones will break my bones, but names will never hurt me." Well, not to shatter anyone's view of an old classic, but nothing could be further from the truth.

In order to create an environment for success, it is vitally important that we understand how to use the power of words to encourage ourselves as well as those around us.

Words have incredible power in our lives, both for good and bad. How we listen to them, think about them and speak them can have profound effects on our success, both in our personal and professional lives.

If you are a business professional, particularly starting your own business online, there can be many challenges that must be overcome. This is typical of anyone, but it can be discouraging at times, sometimes to the point of making you want to just give up.

This is where the power of words comes in and can, quite literally at times, make you or break you. So, how do we use this power of words to enable our success?

Read the Words

Visual motivators and reminders can be a great boost when you're feeling discouraged. Read stories of how others in business stuck with it and overcame obstacles. Cut out encouraging quotes or verses and place them around your desk or on a mirror where you will see them regularly.

A daily calendar with positive thoughts can be helpful, too. Whatever works best for you, to keep you motivated and hopeful, is what you need to surround yourself with. It's easy to forget the positive, so make sure you keep it in front of your eyes.

Think the Words

A majority of the battles we fight are either won or lost in our minds. Before we speak a word or take an action, we can already be defeated by the thoughts we dwell on.

It is of utmost importance to think on positive things, to nip the negative thoughts as soon as you notice them. This is much easier said than done. Many of us naturally veer toward the negative.

And, of course, we cannot ignore reality - if there's a problem, we need to deal with it. But our mindset needs to be that of a problem-solver, not a problem-dweller. If you don't think you can achieve your goals, you probably won't.

Work through what you need to and then get back to the positive. This may take some practice, but with time, thinking positively can become a habit that can change your life.

Speak the Words

Along with thinking negatively, speaking negatively can become a habit that we're not even aware has overtaken us. Think closely about the words you speak. Are they positive? Do they help your situation? Do they encourage you to keep going and hang in there?

Motivational speakers get paid big bucks for doing this, and for good reason. The words we speak matter. Even if you don't fully believe them at first, speak the best over yourself, your business and your life and soon, your belief will catch up.

Be an Example

So, the next time someone says that words don't matter, gently remind them that they do. Then be an example of how to use the power of words to encourage.

The difference you make may extend far beyond your own business and life and leave a lasting impact and legacy for years to come. Instill the power of words for success in those just entering the arena of entrepreneurship as a way of paying it forward.
