From wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

"password is a word or string of characters used for user authentication to prove identity or access approval to gain access to a resource (example: an access code is a type of password), which is to be kept secret from those not allowed access".

It's not enough to create a password, it's necessary to remember it.Thay's why some people prefer to be not so creative, at least when they can.

or maybe think they are...

Some seem ro go a little further...

Some have to work wonders of ingenuity because the requirements are horrendous

Let's listen to a rant of a person who has to do it on a daily basis.(taken from a computer forum)

"I work in an office setting where we have to log into several software applications in addition to various accounts to internet based databases. Additionally, there are network and hardware passwords (Windows, VPN tunnel, etc.).

Is there a particular reason why password security seems to be so non-uniform among all of these applications - so you can't create one password and use it for all systems/applications. Each has its own requirement - whether it be special characters, upper/lower case characters, number/character combinations, etc. I have literally seen people who have a paper list of passwords taped to their desks because there is no way that they could possibly remember all of the passwords they need to use on a daily basis. Who can remember that one application requires a password like P283!$horty131 and another requires P283Shorty131, and they have to be changed every three months.

Today I had to log into a personal account and had forgotten the ridiculous password that the site required, and so I was presented with 5 security questions I answered 2 years ago (and for which I did not know the correct answers because they were case sensitive, etc.). It seems like we have taken password security to absurd levels. Sorry just needed to vent."

I once had to come through quite an experience too. There was something with the pass- word to my Facebook account and while changing it I had to complete some tasks, like recognise more than 100 of my FB friends, say to which groups I belong to(Can anybody imagine?).Miraculously, it was settled by presenting my telephone number which I of course did.

Can anybody share the like stories or maybe examples of passwords you created, or some tools to make things easier?

Passwords were the prime factor in my deciding to retire. I have used a great password app for years on my phone. I just hope I don't forget the app password.

And what? Do you have it?LOL..:)

Hi Vera, passwords are necessary to keep our information safe. irv.

Don't think I have a lot of information which might interest anybody, outside bank accounts(though, they do not present a lot of interest either...LOL)... and some personal correspondence of course...:)

I remember when I had one password for everything and I did fine, now I don't know have many I have because I have so many!

Beautifully said, Mike.. I can relate, too...Tried to keep them in a small notebook(was losing it) then in a thick notebook(was forgetting to put them there). Now I have a good absurd phrase with a capital letter, a number, etc. it does seem to work...LOL:)

LOL ! I am glad you have worked out a system at last!

Hi Vera,
I'm so not feeling passwords!! They drive me absolutely crazy!! Half of them I can't remember, others I don't want to remember...UGH!! It's a vicious cycle. I had to giggle about the 8 characters and a capital, that has to be a classic!!! Have a good evening.
Mary

Yes, they can, Mary.,and they do...I would rather have a lot of things without them..:)

Passwords are so annoying! My Nana used to keep a notebook with her personal details including passwords and the websites they were used for. I don't know if that is a good idea but if you are going to have different ones for different websites you may as well write them down so you can remember them!

You write them down and you lose the notebook! Don't think we need them too different- outside bank accounts of course...anyway, it's a pain in the neck...:)

Great passwords, they can be a pain.

Sure they can...I mainly have one.:)

What's so hard about that? Jason Bourne can remember 10 at one time while being shot at. :>

And you?:)

I have a hard time remembering mine and its my wife's name. HA

What does your wife say? I can imagine how it goes. -
Hey honey. What's the password to my account?
-Aaa , right. Lucy... Well Lucy , will you make me a coffee?:)

You've got it. You know the drill. Haha

Nice ! Thanks for sharing !

Pat

Glad you liked it... thanks...:)

Funny stuff, Vera...and true! :)

Thanks... so very true. Now I have just one phrase , and slightly change it if necessary...and I happen to remember it...:)

Good idea. :)

Hilarious Vera. Maybe that's one reason companies are moving to multi factor authentication!

Facebook too!..It got me trying to do it. Almost 200 fb friends from all over the world. How could i identify them?Or say to which groups I belong to?:))
