Golden milk is a drink with which you can replace your coffee or which you can add to your daily diet.

Golden milk is a warm drink that contains turmeric, a spice that is claimed to have over 150 potentially therapeutic actions. Drinking a cup of Golden milk instead of a cup of milk, you'll have all kinds of benefits: from reducing inflammation to maintaining a healthy level of cholesterol and healing wounds.

Golden milk is used in Ayurvedic medicine.

Turmeric is part of the ginger family and comes from the root of the plant Curcuma longa. Turmeric has been widely used in India for many years, but only recently began to gain popularity in the western world.

THE POTENTIAL BENEFITS OF TURMERIC

Regulates blood pressure

Improves skin condition

Regulates metabolism

Supports healthy cholesterol levels

Improves digestion

Boosts immunity

Reduce inflammation

In combination with black pepper, the effect becomes more powerful.

Even a small amount of black pepper significantly increases the absorption of turmeric into the bloodstream, which increases the chances to see the health benefits.

Turmeric contains an active compound called curcumin, while black pepper contains piperine. Piperine inhibits the metabolism of the drug, which means that more curcumin is absorbed directly into the bloodstream.

How to make Golden milk

It is usually made of coconut milk, turmeric and black pepper. Recipes change, so you can swap the coconut milk for another variety, such as soy, almond, oat or rice milk, regular milk. Additional spices can also be added for flavor. Golden milk with cinnamon is a popular choice.

THE RECIPE FOR GOLDEN MILK

Ingredients:

2 cups of your favorite milk (regular, rice, almond, oat, etc.)

1 teaspoon turmeric

1/2 teaspoon cinnamon (optional)

Pinch of black pepper

Preparation:

Heat the milk in a saucepan, add the remaining ingredients and gently boil for 3-4 minutes.

Bon appetite!

You might want to use some honey (don't boil the honey!), but I like it as it is.

And I am not kidding- i really like the taste. I can not report any dramatic changes in health because I have been drinking Golden milk for about a week only, but I think I have more energy. And I really like the taste!:)

Where to get turmeric:

Turmeric is available in most health food stores and large supermarkets. It is worth shopping around to compare prices, especially if you are planning to buy large quantities of turmeric. Ordering online is often the best option when buying food products.

If you are pregnant or are on medication, consult your doctor before drinking the Golden milk with turmeric. Children under 5 years are not recommended to drink Golden milk.

The next time you want to drink tea or coffee, try Golden milk instead.

I might need to check that out.

Sure you do, Rog.:)

Thanks for the tip. I'm going to try this!

I think you won't regret it, Jose.:)

I am intrigued, but I don't like plain milk (chocolate milk is good, haha) and I have no idea if I'd like the taste of turmeric... Maybe it would be an acquired taste, or maybe I'd just have to grin and bear it.

Might give it a try.

See, Craig- I hate even an idea of boiled milk, but this is something different. I really like the taste, but if I didn't, I might still do it for health benefits . I don't like being sick or going to doctors much more than taking some healthy drink one time a day.But I do like the taste, you might like it too, just find your proportions. You can even have something like one part of water and 2 parts of milk, and you can put a little more or a little less tumeric. Pepper is very important -it naturally helps better accumulate tumeric.
Try and don't forget to tell me how it was.:)

Good tips vera. A step above yellow curry!

Just give it a try, Mike- you might like it. I do , almost as much as I like chocolate(What did I say just now?lol)..:))

Thank you for sharing. I am going to make it

Yes, and please tell me how it was.:)

I will thank you

I tried it today, its pretty good, but I did put sugar in it. Thank you for the recipe

Thanks for sharing. But how does it taste?

My pleasure, Eric. Read my comment here three messages beneath..:))

Can you actually describe the taste? I like it.:)

I can't describe it. Haven't tried it yet. But I googled it and came up with a slightly different recipe:
1 spoon turmeric
120 ml water (4 fl. oz.)
15 g ginger (0.5 oz.)
1 pinch nutmeg
1 to 2 spoon agave or maple syrup
1 pinch black pepper
1 pinch cinnamon
1 teaspoon native coconut oil
350 ml almond or some other plant milk (12 fl. oz.)
Mix the turmeric with the water, the ginger, and the nutmeg to a paste. Heat up the almond milk, whisk the paste into the milk, add the syrup, the cinnamon, and the coconut oil to it, whisk for another two minutes, add some black pepper and serve it hot.

Sure there can be different ones... but you see , I am for simplicity. In your recipe there are quite exotic ingredients. Though I do agree- it should be tasty.:)

It looks like comfort food to me. I am going to try it for sure. It sounds like a great drink before bedtime.
Thanks for sharing!

Yeah, with such a positive attitude you are sure to like it!:)

It's good stuff. I have taken it for several years. When it is available I use the fresh root, other times the powder. You have provided a great summary.
Larry.

Thanks, Larry. Great drink, isn't it?:)

I don't like the look of it, don't like the idea of the pepper...What does it taste like? I already ate goat this weekend, and am wanting to get back to my regular diet! :)

I do like the taste. I've read quite a lot about tumeric. It sounds very beneficial for health. I use it much when cooking- rice, omlettes, some soups.
Pepper in the drink doesn't give any taste- use just a pinch of it . It just serves as a means of a better accumulation of tumeric. The taste of the drink? See- I like avocado, olives, dandelion leaves in a salad, rose petals' jam- it's a bit exotic too. But I like it. And I hate boiled milk! It doesn't taste like milk at all...:))

I'll try it. Why not? Thank you for the share.

Good luck to you! Tell me later how it was...:)
