Can we put a little personality in our blogs on our websites?

When I used to write articles, a lot of the content mills wanted information only, no personality whatsoever. I am thinking that maybe this still holds true, maybe our readers only want information, can somebody please answer me about this as I am going to have to rewrite an awful lot of content if so. Still it is my own fault for going at the writing too much.

Of course you can! You have to write for your readers. Make it sounds like you ;-)

Thanks for the comment Liz, I never thought of my site having readers, and I must admit, as an avid reader myself, I would think it a bit weird if my book changed personality half way through, so I will stick with your advice, a little bit of me will have to do.:-))Steph

It should be that way! Of course...you'll have lots of readers. That's part of the goal, a HUGE part ;-) Be yourself.

Thank you so much, Liz I am feeling so positive now, and being yourself is so important, as in genuine and sincere, rather than trying to be what you think is wanted.:-))Steph

Awesome!! ;-)

Hi Steph,
As long as your content are geared toward your niche I think it will benefit your visitors more if you can relate your experience with the products or cause.
Best wishes
Cheers and Laughter

Thanks, Louisa, for leaving such a good comment, yes, I do try to write my content from the viewpoint of "I know this helped me, this is how, maybe it can help you" and that is exactly what I meant about personality, :-))Steph

I think your readers will want to know about you in your "about me" space on your site. And anything you personly have experienced with the product you are selling on your site. I hope this helps just keep in mind I don't even have a site yet, just try'n to help.

People buy from people they can relate to - people they can trust and so adding your personality into your writing helps to build up that bond between you :)

Thanks, Jude, it was just something that occurred to me this afternoon :-)) Steph

I think people need people. And it's only when they like you and trust you, you'll be able to do what you want to do-present new content, create new value for them, make them engaged and then do the sales.Look around. We prefer to go to the specialists in whom we see people- teachers, doctors, hairdressers, etc.. :)

Thanks for answering my question Vera, so, are you saying that we should wait until we have a following before we do the affiliate stuff, it does sound like a good idea actually, have our WA affiliate site for money and build a following on our niche website before we start trying to sell things to our readers. Very interesting and well worth thinking about.:-))Steph

Maybe it can go similtaneously, too...))

One of the things to remember, when people read books they usually stay the same author or a similar author regardless of subject.
People get used to methods and structures of a certain person's authorship. Stay true to your writing methods, you may lose readers if you change.

Thanks for answering my question so quickly Greg and it is so good to hear so many people actually agree with me, that a little personality helps us engage.:-))Steph

Absolutely. Just remember, there are over 3 Billion internet surfers out there. We are not going to grab the attention of all of them. Just 0.3% is 900 Million for perspective.

Oh my goodness, 3 Billion internet surfers, that is a huge amount of people, as is 900 million. No wonder this community is so big, and as you say, if we can only engage with a very few of that amount, they won't want us to change. Thanks for this Greg, really helpful.:-))Steph

My pleasure.

Nope, I want personality - I don't want dry facts and information - nor do most other people - show me who you are, it's the best way to connect with people, because they see you as a person.

I absolutely agree with Angela, Steph. You have to humanize yourself. Maybe with the big online organizations, readers are looking only for information, but the small ones need to establish trust. One of the best ways to do that is make your personality come alive in your blogs.

Thank you, so much Lisa, that is what I was hoping, I have terrible trouble keeping myself out of my posts, and I would like to think of my readers as more than just customers. Thanks for giving me a quick answer.:-))Steph

Steph I think to develop a return visitor base that it will take our personalities to come thru to engage the reader. In my opinion if you provide the same information in a non-clinical sterile way you will be a step ahead

Thanks for answering my question so quickly Tim, I am very grateful for your reply, I have written quite a bit of content that would need sterilizing otherwise:-))Steph

there are some I suppose who feel that way. But in my opinion, you will do better by putting 'yourself' into your content. You want to build a relationship with your audience so they will come back for more.

Thanks, Angela, that is how I feel about it, I think of it as someone sitting down at a table with you and having a chat over a cuppa, I don't think of myself as a machine with different buttons. Thank you for such a prompt answer.:-))Steph
