What Should I Take from this Report?

Hi folks,

This should have been a question rather than a blog, but as I could not include a screenshot, I chose using a blog.

I wonder whether you can throw some light on the report appearing in my Google Analytics account?

One of my websites I have given little or no attention for approximately one year. However, I've recently started the process of reviving it.

My question is: On Google Analytics today, I received this site performance report and I have no idea what it means.

An average for 1024x768 means nothing to me. It could be the size of image but I don't think that is relevant.

I'm not concerned about the report being negative, I just need to know what it means.

Three days ago the site received 331 visitors in that one day which, of course, had to be bots. The reason for bots getting at my site I cannot understand. I do have security which I purchased along with the purchase of a new laptop. Maybe it is not as secure as I was made to believe.

I've been contemplating whether or not to continue attempting to revive this site. Hence the reason for my question.

Thank you.

Valerie

Yes, that's a banner size.

No, that's not something that the security you purchased on your laptop would stop.

Thanks Jeannine.

Do you know if any security would stop bots from entering a post?

When I started my first website in 2010 without training and just relying on Google answers, my site received dozens of comments daily. I had no idea the comments were spam. When I became aware they were spam I subscribed annually to a security program. I purchased a new laptop six months ago together with Windows 10 which included security. I had to decide which security to choose. I chose Windows and let the other go. There was never any spam to my site when using the other security (I can't recall the name at present). As my websites are hosted by WA they are not a problem, but I wonder how secure all other activity is.

I would be grateful for your advice, Jeannine.

Valerie

Your laptop's security system is different than your website anti-spam program. They shouldn't conflict with each other. I always used something like Akismet which was great.

Thanks very much Jeannine. I appreciate your help and will look at subsricbing to an anti-spam programme.

Wow, Valerie!

I learned a lot from the answers you received!

I hope that you get everything sorted out!

Have an excellent weekend (Frisatsu)!

Jeff

Yeah Jeff I am a spectator on this one as well

Always so much to learn from the answers though, Hugh!

Yeah it would take me a whole lifetime just to get through the Premium level far less to upgrade lol

I know what you mean, Hugh!

HI Jeff,

I'm pleased that my question was of help to you. I'm grateful for the responses I received. They are most helpful.

I'm inclined to jog along with the belief that I should know much more than I do in view of the length of my WA membership. Not a good attitude!

It was good to hear from you, Jeff.

Wishing you a great weekend :)

Valerie

Thanks for your kind response, Valerie!

It is always nice to hear from you!

I hope you are enjoying your weekend, as well!

Jeff

Hi Valerie, good to see you, I hope you are enjoying the autumn in NZ.

Nothing to freak out about, keep investing into that website, that level of visitors on a site that is in create or not mode is very positive.

The metric is about the visitors screen resolution, every device displays differently.

So one of our measure points can be to get friends and family to bring up our websites on thier devices.

Each rendition will be sightly different.

So for some devices that display in that range, the view will be different, which may impact on there user experience which will impact on your bounce rate.

331 visitors something to build on.

Check out this resource it may give you some reflections.

I deal with some folks out of New York. Their battle cry and mine.

"Take what Google says across its online expressions and do the opposite."

I know that's counter intuitive. But it works.

Keep us updated.
Alex

Hi Alex, it's good to see you too. It's been a chilly day and chiller still tonight. The coming winter will be my first in Cambridge. I'm not sure what to expect.

Thanks for your advice regarding my website. I'll see what I can do with family and friends logging into my website. Not many understand what I do!!

I clicked the bluetree link and some of my website posts appeared. But, I was asked if I wanted to host screenfly as bluetree is not hosting that any longer. I didn't get all they said and feel I shouldn't logon again! In other words, I left in a hurry. Ridiculous of me, I know!

It's good to read your words about Google. I will definitely do what you and your New York friends advise.

There's nothing that Google doesn't know about my life online and my outings. I'm considering using Brave browser but need to learn a little more about it.

I will post an update of this site, but it may be a while before I see results depending on my speed at creating content.

Thanks again, Alex.

Enjoy your weekend.
Valerie

Hi Valerie, the pixel spread you have provided is for an " apple I pad, mini," our websites will display slightly differently on each device.

If you had issues try,

http://responsivetesttool.com/

- paste your website URL into the search box.
- select the tablet screen in the top navigation bar.
- from the drop-down menu, select your pixel spread.
- this will show you what your site looks like on that device.

That first winter in a new location is always interesting. I hope that it goes well for you.

It is a growing concern; privacy is a huge issue. Tracking is massive, and many do not realize the extent that we are tracked. The brave browser is a viable option.

Best wishes.
Alex

Hi Alex, thanks for your help. I clicked the link you sent and found that my website presents well in the various screens.

Also, I learned more about cookies. Quite concerning! It's time to learn more about brave.

This morning is beautifully sunny and warm. May it last!

All the best,
Valerie

My guess , the 11.92% of your sessions are from ipads and iphones, they use 1024 x 768 screen resolution. You can check that by checking the mobile devices in GA, it should show those 11.92% under user devices.

Littlemama had a dead site just sitting doing nothing and she planned to ditch it too. I wish you all the best.

John

Hi John, thanks so much for your response. I'm sure your guess is correct.

It didn't occur to me that devices would be the answer due to the very little traffic to the site.

And, thanks for the link to Littlemama's post. Wow, what an inspiration! I've avoided writing reviews for too long! I need to follow in Grace's footsteps.

Best wishes,

Valerie

Your very welcome and I agree, I think we all need to follow in Garce's footsteps. She's made the Vegas trip with the Super Affiliate Challenge here in WA.

To try and remedy the issue I would go through your images and optimize them. For larger images on the pages, you may consider scaling the images to sizes well under the 1024 x 768.

The larger images slow site speeds especially if unoptimized and left in their original size. I just rewrote a bunch of old content and fixed my images, it improved my page rank and overall site speed.

Best of Luck

Thanks for the advice, John. I need to do a lot of work on images published during previous years. I do compress my images by using tinypng.com.

I find it interesting that Kyle's training about images is to keep them small rather than large. At some stage the very large images appeared on sites and they continue to be used.

I agree with what you say with regard to the effect larger images have on site speed.

And, wow, Grace is absolutely amazing. She joined WA at a similar time as I did. Her progress could be referred to as speedy. Grace was at Las Vegas in her first year of membership, if I remember correctly!

Have a great weekend :)

Hey
I think this has something to do with a screen resolution for some devices. But I am unsure what action need taken.
Wishing you well and a terrific day.

Thanks so much for your response, Lula. John also thinks it relates to screen resolution. I didn't realize that factor would be reported in the way it is by GA, particularly as there is little traffic to the site. So the good thing is that I will no longer be concerned about that. I'll put my energy into creating content towards reviving the website.

Wishing you all the best.
Valerie
