What a Surprise Package Facebook Is

Hi Folks,

Just sharing a small story about Facebook, which is something I’ve never come to terms with. In fact, that’s pretty much the case with all social media and me. I use Google Plus because of Jay’s training, and a little bit of Pinterest, but no great participation on my part.

Anyway, to get on with this story, I have website that is low on traffic. This morning, I looked at Google Analytics and saw I had visits from Social Media.

Being curious I went into the depths of Analytics to find where those visits were from. To my surprise, they were from Facebook.

Well, I hadn’t mentioned that I do have a Facebook page for this website, but I do next to nothing with it.

So, this morning, after struggling with Facebook to open the correct page, I found I had a number of visitors. Yes, the very small number of 10. Facebook left a message telling me to write a post of Thanks to those visitors. Also to Boost my page, or post. I’m not sure which.

Now, these numbers are very small, but so has been my attention to this Facebook page.

I’m just wondering how much greater the traffic might be to this website if I became more active with Facebook.

Do you use Facebook to promote your website?

I would be appreciative of your comments regarding your experience with Facebook from a business point of view.

Thank you.

What I love about FB is that you can schedule your posts. So if you have enough content you can spend a bit of time, write a heap of FB posts and then schedule them to appear at a later date.

I can't get the hang of Twitter, it seems so disorganised lol.

Thank you Heidi.
It's good to know about scheduling posts. I'm really new to FB in spite of having an account for a long time, so I'm grateful for your advice.

I agree about Twitter. I've used it on and off, but have never understood it completely.

Thanks again, and have a great week :)

Hi, Valerie,
For your limited time you have used Facebook and you have those 10 visitors means a whole lot.

I have a list of referrals some not converted yet but who knows they might and they come mostly from Facebook.

I just need to learn more about marketing myself better and you are obviously doing something right Valerie.

I would love to learn more of your escapades on this. So please keep us updated on your fb endeavours I think you are amazing.
Debs ;-))

Hi Debs,
It's interesting to read about your referrals. I have a list of referrals but no idea where they came from.

No doubt, you will have seen those people on Facebook and then again as your referrals. That makes sense, and something I hadn't thought of.

I will start my activity with Facebook this week, and will keep you updated. If it's interesting enough I'll publish a post. Otherwise I'll let you know how it's going by sending a PM to you.

Hopefully, for both of us, I'll have some good reports to share :)

Valerie

Hi, Valerie,
Yes definitely keep me up to date how you are going.
Bo Tipton and Tony Hamilton both do some great training on Facebook and Instagram.
They are worth checking out.
~Debs ;-)

Hi, Debs,
Thanks for your message.
It is helpful and I will remember to keep in touch.
Valerie

I used to be very active on Facebook and got a lot of attention. Then, it seemed that their way of doing things changed, so traffic, engagement, and $ decreased. Sounds like others posted some great ideas for getting the training I need to attract more visitors that should be on my to do list.

Thanks Rebecca for your comment. Even with the little involvement I've had with social media, I find they are always changing things. I know change can be good, but why it has to be so frequent I don't know!

I'm pleased you've gained some ideas to help you too with attracting visitors to Facebook.

All the best :)

Helloe Valerie, I boosted a post on Facebook about a month ago. I was trying to find the actual numbers, but I guess they have taken them down.
I remember I had a lot of visitors, quite a few likes, a few shares, but only picked up about 3 follows.
I am in a niche that is very crowed as far as Facebook is concerned.
I didn’t notice any real increase in visits to my website from this, but it could be different with your niche.
I don’t think it hurts to spend a little money, try it and see how it works. You will get some publicity, but I received no actual purchases from my boost.
Hope this helps. Wayne

Hi Wayne, thanks very much for advising of your experience with boosting on Facebook. It's good to know that it did increase visitors and activity in general.
I agree with what you say about spending a little to test it out. Without giving it a try, I'll never know.
However, it's very helpful to have feedback from you and other members because when I do get to try Facebook for my business, I won't feel so 'isolated', knowing that others have been there before me!

Thanx for asking this question Valerie. It allowed me to gather some information from the responses. I was planning on utilizing FB and Pinterest in the near future, but I'm also not sure what to expect. As you've mentioned more than once, I think part of it depends on your niche
~Shell

Hi Shelley, I'm pleased my question was helpful. Thanks so much for leaving your response :)

I'm with you on social media Val. To me social media feels like an overcrowded room of people all speaking... no shouting, often negatively... at the same. But... it's obvious it works for business so I think it's just a matter of learning how to tap into that without going mad. :)
~Mark :)

That's very true, Mark. I need to make the effort to learn about social media.
Thanks so much for your comment :)

Hi V,
I find Facebook is a great source of traffic for local businesses pages and niche groups work really well too. Note I said "groups" there as you can turn a page into a grp if you want something a lil more private.
For the most part there's a bunch of Groups that are good to filter traffic from > to your pages if you connect and offer cool info & advice.

For website pages that are nice related pushing the content to FB via one of the many social tools like IFTTT, Free Buffer etc works as long as they auto posts are about 30% of your content...

Facebook does help from a business point of view if you are comfortable with it. like most approaches, you work with what fits you best.

Hopefully helpful
Tony B

Hi Tony,
Thank you for your good advice. I looked at Groups a while back but didn't do anything with them.

It appears that FB is rather like learning a new language. There's so many different facets. No doubt, if I took a few hours away from what I normally do, to learn more about FB I would get a better understanding.

I appreciate your help and will take it from there. Time will tell whether or not it is the right thing for my business.

Many thanks.
Valerie

All blessed Valarie

Your account on Facebook must be another from a Fan page for your site. I had been promoting my posts on Facebook but people are not appreciative of it. They like anything you post but most of them don't go to the site and read what is inside.

On matters of boosting your site on Facebook I do read an experience of someone who tried it by paying an amount. It did not make much of the traffic.

Thanks very much Jimmy for your advice.
I can imagine that people don't actually visit the site for more information. Probably one in a thousand might do that, but that's not enough for us!

I had read something about boosting not being profitable.

I suppose a lot depends on the niche and business location. A few years ago I knew a business person who found that FB ads (not boost) were profitable for his business. It was a local business. I can't remember what the business was but it would be classed as a brick and mortar, as opposed to online.

Thanks again for your help :)

You are welcome.

I find FB campaigns to be a great aid for broad awareness, but they generally score lower than (for instance) Pinterest on conversions. And I have no intention of targeting paid adverts that don’t return on investment.

Ads are also getting more expensive on FB. And the ad tactics that once worked, will no longer (think of any form of click bait). So, use it judiciously. If your market research tells you that your kind of customer typically buys through these channels, then cultivate them.

Thank you very much, Ivy. Your response doesn't surprise me in respect to FB. Of recent times, I've heard negativity about FB. At the same time I've heard positive comments about Pinterest.

The website I was referring to is about affiliate marketing and I think not conducive to FB, but I just needed to ask the question.

I have another website about dogs. I hadn't looked at the FB page for this website for such a long time. Since writing this WA post, I see that the dog FB page has hundreds of visitors. Because the niche is focused on a particular breed of dog, it could very well be that this is the FB page to give attention to.

Thanks again for your help, Ivy :)

No worries. I think one more idea to keep in your back pocket, is that you own nothing on FB. You may use their platform, but the audience is theirs. In contrast, everything you build on your own site, content, comments at al, is yours.

A very good point, Ivy.
Thank you :)

Facebook can be a very powerful tool Valerie, when used with paid ads. If you have something that is desirable, your post can get a lot of attention. I prefer to add posts to my website and focus on content but now and then I write a post that I run through FB ads targeting a specific demographic.

Thank you very much Craig. I appreciate your response and feel that is the better move for my website also. The last post I placed on FB was in January. I'll place a recent post on FB, acknowledge the visitors, and leave it at that. By the way, this website is about affiliate marketing, so probably not all that suitable.

I have a 'tight' dog niche page on FB which I've not given attention to. It has more visitors so I will experiment with that, for now.

Also check out the stats on videos. Much more popular.

Thank you, Craig. That sounds interesting.

I haven't tackled video yet. Perhaps I need to get started with it!
